BG Quarterback Among Highest NFL Wonderlic Scores Ever

I was reading a story on Carson Wentz and Jarod Goff today that quoted their respective Wonderlic test results at the combine. Both had high scores that ranked among the highest ever recorded at the NFL Combine since they started using it.

I was absolutely shocked to see a former BG quarterback on the list of highest scores of all time. Check out who scored a 38 (tied for 23rd best score ever). Surprising because we heard he wasn't smart enough to grasp NFL offenses.

The site says these scores were leaked and they can't vouch for their authenticity, but they have to be based in some form of reality.

Goff got a 36 and Wentz got a 40.

During my years as a firefighter/paramedic I had taken a lot of training with many people I knew and didn't know. One instructor I had in my original course said that he would much rather have a person who was a C to a B avg academic student. His logic was that those high in GPA was to mental and didn't act fast enough due to thinking to long, and not much of a worker. At the other end was an individual who couldn't think at all. Those in that range made better quick on the move choices and followed thru. Over the years I watched this just not in my Past chosen occupation but in other arenas too. For the most part it seemed to fit. I mention this noticing some players up on that list that really never produced.

Looking at that list I'd say there is no advantage of being in the upper tier. A lot of no-namers, washouts, bench warmers and underachievers in that group.

UT had a QB a few years back who was some kind of academic wiz...engineering major, lifetime 4.0. He was a terrible QB because it took him forever to process what he was seeing and even then he sometimes got his keys wrong because those wily defenders tricked him into seeing something that wasn't there. He didn't seem to know how to process deception.

None of this stuff takes a braniac to learn. That said it isn't necessarily easy to learn. Just takes a commitment and willingness to learn it. As is the case with most any hobby, profession or trade.
