I haven't seen any talk on here about the recent NCAA ruling outlawing "Satellite Camps". I'm sure most of us heard of it, but like me, you probably didn't care. It was a case of the SEC/ACC getting pissy at Harbaugh, etc, for having the audacity to visit their territory and recruit southern kids. I'm sure BG isn't running football camps in Florida or Texas, so figured this was just another case of the biggest boys squabbling and who gives a damn.

Well, then they were talking about it on Mike & Mike this morning and apparently another part of the rule is that coaches are ONLY allowed to attend/participate in the camps on THEIR campus. That means that our coaches, and all the other coaches in the MAC, will no longer be allowed to attend the camps at OSU or UM or ND to scout the talent that likely never gets an offer from those bigger programs. WTF...seriously!? And even more appalling that the Mountain West and Sunbelt actually SUPPORT this rule!?

Good god, they continue to do whatever they can to screw us over, don't they?

And of course it's not just screwing over the BGs of the world...no, it also COMPLETELY screws over the HS athletes that would like to participate in these camps. Used to be they could attend the OSU camp and be seen by every coach in the MAC, etc. Now if they want to be seen they'll have to participate in a bunch of different camps...which means traveling to all of those campuses, paying for all of those camps, etc.

The NCAA does everything in its power to make me hate college football...kudos, assholes, kudos...

The NCAA needs blown up and rebuilt. It is as corrupt as Congress...if not more.

The MAC just doesn't get it when it comes to football....they try and try and try to be relevant in football, but the MAC is just programming on Tuesday and Wednesday nights for ESPN. We destroy our fan bases and attendance and the conference is still irrelevant in D1 college football. This rule is just another example of the big boys throw their weight around and the NCAA cowers.

There wasn't much of a fan base to destroy. (Unless I have somehow forgotten all those times we packed 50,000 people into Perry Stadium.)

It is true that attendance is light in November. MAC attendance has always been light in November. The fact that we are playing on weeknights, in the evenings, probably means attendance is a bit lighter in November than it otherwise would be. But only a bit. In return, we get national television coverage that we dared not dream of 20 years ago. And, if anything, that national attention makes the MAC a bit more relevant, not less.

If Bowling Green wins all its football games this season, the Falcons will almost certainly play in a Peach/Orange/Sugar-type bowl game. This is certainly more relevant than we used to be.

I'm up for getting out the pitchforks and torches against the NCAA as anyone, but this wasn't an NCAA action. This was the football conferences deciding.

It really hurts the recruits who can't afford to travel to a bunch of different schools/camps. It's just bad, and I'm not sure why conferences voted against their own self interest.

There's a backlash brewing against the schools that pushed this amongst HS athletes. There's a guy in Ann Arbor named Sam Webb...he cohosts a UM oriented Am drive show there and he runs the MichiganInsider.com website. He suggested that recruits up in MI and OH should make it clear that they disapprove of this measure...largely driven by the ACC and SEC ...and will not consider their schools as long as they attempt to restrict their opportunities and the opportunities of their friends and classmates. He's already had a couple of high profile kids in the Detroit area ask for some specifics on who they should avoid.

I agree with Apollo...MAC fans should look at this as just another sign that while we may call ourselves "D1"...that's only true to the extent the money sluts that run the sport will allow it.

The Mountain West and Sun Belt voted against these camps too. If these two stick together with the rest of the group of five the ban doesn't get passed.

This is true. The big conferences started this and the couple non power conferences that voted for it screw everybody over.

It's just an awful rule because more than anything it really screws over the hs kids that cannot afford to get to a bunch of camps. The only people it benefits are the schools/coaches in talent rich areas.

It's just asinine, so naturally it fits right in with the NCAA mo.

That's false. The vote was 10-5. Each Power 5 vote counts as 2 votes. The only Power 5 conference to vote no was the BiG whatever--PAC 12, Big 12, SEC, and ACC all voted for. Even if the Sun Belt and Mountain West would have voted against, the vote would have been 8-7 and still passed.

Completely agree. It was once 11-0, nationally ranked and going to the California Bowl (sponsored by raisins) playing a Mountain West (mid-major) team on a broadcast produced by Comcast or some other second rate non-network production company. Now we get ESPN against potentially a Power 5 team or a highly ranked mid-major. We have come a long way from the 1 bowl MAC .

The Mountain West was a few years away. We squared off with the mighty Pacific Coast Athletic Association (now known as the Big West). Football members then included Fresno State, Cal State Fullerton, Nevada-Las Vegas, Long Beach State, Utah State, San Jose State, Pacific, and New Mexico State.

The MAC has come a long way.
