“Our vision and our goal for this program is, when you turn on these preview shows, I never hear them say anything about Bowling Green,” Jinks said. “I want you to turn on the program and hear them saying, ‘Hey, Bowling Green has a legitimate chance to play in that at-large (bowl) game.’ And we’re not there yet.”

I like to hear a guy talk about building a program to a higher level...the Boise State level. That's what I think BG should be modeling. We are playing some high profile non conf games the next few years. Do what BSU has been able to do and they are mentioned for the "Group of 5" NY Bowl every year. They have been successful against the "Power 5" teams for a long time and are taken seriously by most fans across the nation.

Thoughts?

That all sounds great to me. Trouble is he will have his bags packed the first season they win 10 games and let the team coach itself for the bowl game.

Boise State had some coaching instability, too. The key is to keep moving the ball forward. We've won the MAC two out of the past three seasons. So what are the next steps? One of them is to become part of the national conversation through a national ranking.

Another step would be to show we are reloading rather than rebuilding. Winning the East this season would be a big deal. A lot of people perceive we've lost too much talent to win the East again. If we can show Bowling Green isn't going away, that we intend to win the East every season, that's a pretty big cultural change from where we were four years ago.

Agreed SF. NIU is another example of losing coaches and yet still maintaining their high level of play. This is a BiG season for us...

Hawkins was there for 5 years and the more successful Petersen was there for 8. That's pretty good coaching stability for anywhere when you're winning 85% of your games.

I could have been more clear. The reason I brought this up was that Hawkins left at a key time for the Bronco program. After Hawkins left for Colorado in 2005, probably thinking he had done all he could do in Boise (including leading the Broncos to three straight one-loss seasons), Petersen came in and immediately led the program to a 13-0 No. 5 finish.

Coaching stability is nice. It helps. But changes aren't always a bad thing.

Where is Boise State right now? Nice program...wins a lot of football games. A few years ago they were looked at as one of those BCS buster teams Now...like us...they're shooting for a spot at a "Big bowl" game. We don't have to do much to be Boise State...we're just about there now. The problem is, we didn't rise to the level they did, they were pushed back down to us by the P5.

I think the P5 wants that "at large" bid to go to the AAC... but they can't be too obvious in setting that up.

Boise State actually draws fans for their home football games.....when we start doing that, we may be able to discuss going to the next level. Our schedule should be difficult enough to get on the radar the next few years, but you have to win....

In all honesty, I think we take a step back this year....we may still win the East, but I think we finish with 5-7 losses when it's all said and done. The conference schedule is a little tougher with both UT and NIU...luckily we avoid WMU.
Here's how I see it playing out this season....obviously you play the games for a reason and injuries are always a factor. This is just my initial thought on the schedule....not that anyone cares.

@ OSU - Loss
North Dakota- Easy Win
Middle Tennessee- 50/50...my gut says we lose
@ Memphis- Loss
EMU- Easy Win
@ OU- Win
@ Toledo- Loss
MIami- Win
@ NIU- Loss
@ Akron- Win
Kent- Win
UB- Win
MAC Championship- Loss to WMU

Jinks has a certain look to him...friendly enough guy but you sense a certain level of malice and toughness there that Babers didn't project. Dino's teams were soft at times...Jinks said as much talking about that 1st INT against Toledo sending the game down the crapper. I Think this team is going to be tougher physically and mentally. OL is good...even w/o Bennett...and the center of the DL is strong as are the LB's. Jinks has "snuck" afew guys in post signing day that have some ability...Dossous, Calen Taylor, Denley and Cleveland who can go. I really like what Jinks is doing here...and if you look at where we are now with our verbal commits...he's a heck of a recruiter. The game at OSU is going to be a loss...they have too much talent and Urbie's not going to F around like Tressel sometimes did on the OOC games. I think we can win every other game we play this year.

Third MAC title in four years....

Excellent post Flip. I get a good feeling about Jinks as well. Still holding out hope we can somehow pull this off in Cbus...and I'd feel a hell of a lot better about our chances if the sweater vest was still in charge. Urban simply goes for the kill, as he should.

As long as we beat tsun...we MUST stop that streak. It is unbearable. :vom:

A lot of our season is going to come down to how we do against Middle Tennessee, Memphis, Toledo, and Northern Illinois. I see all of these games as jump balls, more or less.

(The Ohio game is also important, obviously. I like our chances in that one, though.)
