Jacob Bennett out for the year

Post by BGSU33 »

Per JW: Falcons coach Mike Jinks confirmed after practice that OT Jacob Bennett will miss entire 2016 season w/ knee injury.

Huge blow. That's two returning starters lost for the year in the offseason with Clint Stephens being the other. Two big blows, plus a third with Matt Domer out for the season too.

So is he done @BG? Or could he get a medical redshirt or something?

I believe medical RS should be an option.
Major loss. I feel for him.

Bennett has started 42 consecutive games! BG returned the most combined starts for an OL in the NCAA. When you take away Bennett's 42 starts BG falls way back into the pack. He redshirted in 2012 so his future will boil down to two things. One, does he want to apply for a medical RS, and two, will he be granted one by the NCAA? The latter is the much bigger unknown. Sadly, his career could possibly be over.

Jacob is a great guy. I had him in class his first year on campus. A stand-up individual. It's such a shame this happened to him. Based on everything I've read, he would qualify for a medical hardship waiver. If he has NFL dreams, it would be worth applying for the waiver. If he is looking to graduate and start the next phase of his life, he may be able to finish school this year. Whatever the situation, I wish him the best. It's just such a shame he ended up with this injury in his senior year.

John Wagner wrote an article a couple months ago that said Bennett plans to apply for a medical redshirt. I really hope he gets it. He would be a huge addition back with some of the loses on the OL going into next season. Gotta wait and see what the NCAA decides though and that's always a crapshoot.
