Offseason Coaching Changes

I think the NCAA should adapt a new procedure in college football. Here are my suggestions.

1. I think no coach should be FIRED during the college football season. If your school hired the coach then they need to stand by him, even if his record is 0-9 and you want to fire him. Do not fire him until the season is over, even if he is involved in a scandal. Now if he did something against the law that is different, but no coach should be fired during the year.

2. With the above said, no coach should be HIRED during the football season. Wait until after all bowl games are over then start the hiring process.

3. Athletes can transfer but I still think they need to sit out 1 yr if they transfer. If their coach leaves though, and he/she was recruited by that coach they should be allowed to transfer without penalty.

I just think it would be better for college sports not to have the bidding wars and contract issues during the season. Knowing your coach got hired for another school with 3 games left in the season only makes the kids wonder what they did wrong to make their coach want to leave them, or possibly get fired. Season is over in Jan. and the opening game is in Aug. You have 6 months to hire a new coach or fire a coach. I think all coaching changes should be done after the season.

I agree and like the points you made...but I don't see that happening.

IT sure would be nice though...

I think that any meaningful NCAA reform should include a ban on cliches like "they came to play today" and "it just came down to who wanted it more".

Problem with allowing transfers when a coach leaves...This could end up making some schools suffer just because the coach was offered a "better" gig. Example: What if when Urban left, not only did he take half the coaching staff, but he also took all the great upcoming players with him...i.e. Omar Jacobs? and others? This would have prompted every young player with options to go else where to also jump ship. BG would have fallen back to the bottom to rebuild again. That certainly wouldn't be fair to the incoming coach. As a matter of fact, who would want that job with half the players leaving. It would certainly tank the next coaches carreer.

In the situation (scandal) that happened with UK a couple of years ago and the Baylor basketball incident, they did allow those players to transfer without losing a year and some left. Players shouldn't be penalized if they get caught up in a scandalous situation, but if a coach leaves or is fired, remember, more goes into a decision of where to play other than just the coach. The players know that there is always the possibility that your coach may not be there your entire carreer.

BelieveNBG is right. Once a player commits to living and learning at a college or university, he/she should stay there. This isn't a franchise system where people should just be able to jump all over the place. High school recruiting is so important because people are making a 4-5 year comitment to an institution. A rule change like this would ruin college athletics and make it more pro-like. No me joder gusta.

quote]Excellent point Believe, I had never thought of it that way. That really would hurt the current program. I never thought of how much that would change things.
