Welcome to Rock Bottom

It sure as hell didn't take long to get here either. And get used to it, we're staying here awhile. From first to worst in one off-season. There's not a single bit of resemblance of last year's MAC Championship team remaining. None whatsoever. It's long gone and we're just gettting started in this downward spiral.

Eh, we've been here tons of times before. BGSU has a culture of consistent inconsistency. It's why i never boast about BG finishing first or on top because it's fleeting.

Take a breather; have scotch; enjoy the climb back up (whenever that will be.)

In all honesty we've never really been all that good. Going back to Clawson's first year in 09 our record against teams that finished the year with a .500 or better record is....11-37

Our championship season of 13 we went 3-3
Our championship season of 15 we went 4-4

We normally beat bad teams...not sure that will be the case the next couple years.

Your version of Falcon football history is way too limited. There was a time when BGSU consistently had winning seasons, and even managed to win a title now and again. Despite the very inconsistent seasons of BG football, starting in the 1990s, the program has remained one of the top two in the league in wins and winning percentage (excluding one of the late comers); and second only to Miami in the number of MAC titles won. So accepting mediocrity, especially when it's been as bad as this year, should not happen.

If the leaders of BG aren't willing to correct the huge mistake that is named Mike Jinks, then they should just forget staying in D-1 and drop down a division. No point in trying to compete when you've tied one hand behind your back by keeping arguably the worst coach in D-1 right now.

Pj Fleck and the Broncos were at rock bottom his first season at 1-11. So who knows what the future holds. 8-[

Once again, judge a first year coach based on entry point, not just first season results. Fleck entered a going nowhere mess, Jinks inherited a championship team in the worst division in college football. He also lost to the worst team in D1 historically, at home, on homecoming, less than a year after the program won the league title. Ya, BG lost a ton of talent, including a historically productive QB. However, being honest with oneself sees that this is a DISASTER of a hire.

???

I started at BG in 79. Decent to meh teams until McClure shows up in 1982...then we're good until 1986. We sucked from 86-90. Got good again from 91-94 in the early Blackney years...that 94 fat punter team might have been his best. From 95 through 2000 we were bad to...at best..medicore. Urban gets here in 2001 and we're good until 2005 when things got iffy. We were bad to mediocre from 2005 until 2012...I might be convinced that 2007 was a good year even though we lost by a million in the GMAC bowl. @012 is when the uptick becomes real as we become good again...winning two MAC title in three years.

This program has by my reckoning 40 years of 4-5 years of feast followed by several years of famine. This is famine. HC and assistants on a step learning curve. Players...particularly the DL WR and secondary fighting an uphill battle. Throw in a RS Fr QB and we're going to be down. On the plus side...we get Watson back after next week and every week Morgan will learn something.

This year is going to be rough....but there's no way in hell...barring some odd incident or he quits to be an asst in Texas for more $$$...that Jinks is out of here this year. So...next year we have a more mature secondary...maybe a little shuffling of the staff...an experienced QB we should improve. That means Jinks will be back again. The third year is always the true test. If we flatten out and don't move forward...that will be the time to talk buyouts

I've been as disappointed in Jinks as anybody. I think he's currently in way over his head, and it shows. The talent loss made his initial job difficult, he didn't inherit much team leadership to build off of, and he hasn't done particularly well establishing his culture/style of play.

All those things being said, we have no choice but to stay the course and hope he learns on the job while also teaching the young players and builds the program back up.

If this program, given its current state, were to pay $2+ million to fire a football coach I might stop ever giving a dime to them. That's just completely absurd. You shouldn't keep an Orr or Dakich for so long after it's obvious they don't have it, but they don't have the financial flexibility for a 4 year buy out either. And further, firing a coach after a single season is almost never a good idea. At least not based on anything on-field related. Playing grab ass in a bar, or turning a blind eye to player transgressions? Sure, fireable offenses. But not lack of on-field success...that's just absurd.

It's a bit of a "shake my head" moment to see people suggesting buy-outs and such. You do realize for all intents and purposes BGSU athletics operates on a shoestring budget compared to the rest of the MAC?

I don't think anyone or few here disagree. But what can realistically be done if the money isn't there? I hate it too but it's not so simple.
