List of names missing from the 2017 spring roster

I just looked over the 2017 spring roster and the names below are players who were expected to return this year, or are players who had elibility remaining and are not listed on the roster. Two things that really jumped out at me was this:
1). Remember last year how the OL returned all 4 starters and 2 more OL reserves with starts under their belt and the unit returned the most returning starts by an OL unit in the NCAA? Well, next year there will only be 1 returning starter, Tim McAuliffe. The losses are extremely heavy at OL as Logan Deitz, JJ Beggan and Ben Stewart all exhausted their eligibility, Jacob Bennett (our best OL) was not awarded a medical redshirt, Ryan Hunter (previously a full-time starter) isn't listed on the roster any longer, De'Angelo Ware was on the two-deep at OT and looks to be gone and Tyler King (converted DL to OL) announced he was retiring from football. Those are major losses at OL for BG and the OL clearly looks to be the area of concern on offense.
2). Three JUCO's who transferred to BG last year look to be gone. This is sort of puzzling as you usually don't see the JUCO's you bring in exit like that after just one season. They are WR Vanel Dossous, DL Grant Coffey and K Blake Levin.
RB CJ Lamar - had 3 years of eligibility remaining
WR Vanel Dossous - JUCO transfer to BG last year
OL Jacob Bennett - was not awarded a medical redshirt
OL Ryan Hunter - had a year of eligibility remaining
OL De'Angelo Ware - had 2 years of eligibility remaining
OL Tyler King - announced he was giving up football
DL Grant Coffey - JUCO transfer to BG last year
DB CJ Pickrom - had 3 years of eligibility remaining
DB Jake Lemming - transferred to BG from Iowa State
QB Mike Messina - walk on
RB Patric Hannon - had a year of eligibility remaining
WR Hunter Coleman - walk on
DL Darrick Green - added late in camp last year
K Blake Kevin - JUCO transfer to BG last year
K Kekoa Sasaoka - added late in camp last year

Bennett ...we knew he wasn't coming back...Hunter is odd...I think there was something with D. Ware last year...I don't think he was on the two deep at the end of the year. King I don't think played at all..but he was the back up to McCauliffe. Hannon graduated...Lamar never played, Levin ...did he ever suit up?...Coffey got hurt at some point...don't know if that's why he left...Dossous has left for D3 maybe? Pickrom...who knows? Coleman left last year at the start of the season...family issue maybe? The rest of those guys are/were walk ons and they're always a fluid bunch.
The guy I would sorely miss...if he's gone and not just omitted somehow is Hunter. King i n issue possibly too if soemthig happens to the starter The rest of them...roster changes a lot every year , hope they all find success elsewhere or away from football

I saw something tagged about Missouri Western (D-II) with Dossous when I first stumbled upon it. It could be where he's headed. I've seen their football stadium and indoor facility. Their main grandstand/press box and indoor facility are better than some of the MAC's. And I agree with you about Hunter, he started every game for each of the past two seasons. We knew we were losing an experienced trio on the OL but that coupled with the losses of Bennett and Hunter are huge blows. I'm surprised we didn't get a JUCO or target a grad transfer to help soften the blow as behind McCauliffe we are EXTREMELY young and inexperienced. That leaves only Labus (2 starts two years ago) and Taborn (2 starts last year) as the only other OL to have started on the OL and 8 of the 12 OL (67%) were freshmen in 2016 (6 true freshmen and 2 redshirt freshmen). That is an extremely young and inexperienced OL!

Hey all -- Ryan Hunter was a mistake on my part. He's been added back to the 2017 spring roster. Thanks for catching that!

All in all, I don't see much there that gives me pause.
Go Falcons!

OK...so we can all go back to bitching about the basketball teams. Clancy, Hunter and McCauliffe are very experienced...we'll mix in some underclassmen and everything will be ok

Sorry to hear news on Tyler King. We never seem to have much luck w/ St. Ed's kids ... Usually injured , wind up not playing much. Don't we have a DB from Ed's who got hurt last yr. , didn't play much, if at all afterward.

Doubled checked myself. Jack Waltz(sp?) was who i was thinking of. Was playing early, then got hurt.

Anyone know HOW the NCAA makes decisions on 6th yr. requests? Would seem if you're injured BEFORE the season, don't play one down, you should be granted one. Yet, we seem to lose out on every kid who's ever requested this. And many "big" schools seem to get kids OK'd.

Your red shirt year must be due to an injury, and then you must miss another season due to injury. At least this is what I've heard from some people in Athletics as of recent. So, either the people getting the 6th year have had two years lost to injuries, or they lie about one of the years.

I'd say that considering its seems traditional for various reasons that most players are redshirted as freshmen to save them, get them accustomed to the new environment, and develop. So my guess is the latter in most cases.
