When BG faces MSU to.open the season MSU may have several players suspended. Granted, they have all Spring and Summer to prepare for the suspensions but last week 2 players were kicked off the team, another player yesterday quit because his heart wasn't into football anymore. Today MSU reported it's investigating a sexual assult case and suspended 3 more players. And a 7th player was in court today for spitting in the face of an officer.
That's 7 players that could be suspended for the home opener.

There's also a harassment allegation against the band director. Things are not going well with Sparty. Too bad - that is a program I respect.

Rumor has it that this is the tip of the iceberg...

According to Gregg Henson...a guy who's been on Detroit radio for like 20 years...there's more to come involving more players and possibly coaches.
Dantonio and Izzo have both looked the other way on campus incidents to keep talented players around. It may finally be biting Dantonio in the ass

Henson is a UM slappy so take what he says with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, seems like success usually comes at a price in college football which is disappointing. I have a lot of respect for Dantonio.

From Henson's twitter feed this AM (bout an hour ago)...
High profile coach led out of the football building, big time player led off MSU campus in handcuffs.
He may be a Walmart Wolverine...but that doesn't mean he's wrong on this

That in itself, should move the betting line 2 or 3 points.

Curtis Blackwellis aninteresting guy...came to MSU from the Sound Mind,Sound Body football camps to oversee recruiting and mentor athletes. Rumor has it that when the alleged sexual assault occurred, he tried to bribe/coerce the alleged victim into not pressing charges....that one of the players actually called him on his mobile to get his help.

I haven't been around as much lately, but religiously follow the UM Scout (pay) board for those that know me.
Most of this is still RUMOR but some can be substantiated . . .
Alleged incident took place in January. 3 football players and an "off-field" staffer/coach were involved.
We now know the staffer/coach to be Curtis Blackwell. Flipper is correct in the conjecture that several others have floated the same story that the players (2 of 3 are tied to Blackwell through Detroit) . . . Basically it goes that the players took turns raping and videotaped the incident. Blackwell was notified (allegedly) by one of the players in question (allegedly). Blackwell (allegedly) advised them to erase the videotape/cellphone footage (allegedly) and then proceeded to reach out to the victim (allegedly) to 'make this go away' (allegedly).
STRONG rumors name the kids on most any Sparty board you come across. I won't name them publicly here, but two SIGNIFICANT players are implicated and a third coming off a redshirt should have been in a position of need to compete for time.
Today, 2/16/2017, University police asked for four arrest warrants . . . 3 of the nature of sexual assault and one of a non-sexual nature but related to the case. Which matches all of the information that the Sparty insiders and the media has reported thus far (Blackwell and three players)
In addition to all of this there are ongoing investigations into gymnastics and softball related to a former trainer by the name of Nasser (I believe) who is alleged to have sexually assaulted players/gymnasts during his tenure.
Lastly, there are unconfirmed reports out there that the STAR of STARS for Michigan St (allegedly) failed what would be his second marijuana test, which would bring a one year suspension . . . Needless to say a MAJOR blow
Also, there are pieces of a story floating around that LB Jon Reschke's status is in question as well. Some say that he is gone and others say he will be gone soon. (Allegedly) his girlfriend had relations with an African American teammate and Reschke responded by sending some what has been described as "racist" texts to the (ex-)girlfriend and the teammate. The new couple then posted the aforementioned texts online for public consumption. Sparty insiders have already warned readers that Reschke will not be with the program moving forward.
Addendum, former four star OT Thiyo Lukasa of Traverse City (soph to be) and rumored starter at RT quit the team in the last week or so.
So for those of you keeping score at home . . . Sparty COULD be down their STAR in the backfield
And (most likely) will be down their:
-Best returning WR
-young RT
-starting DE/top reserve DL
-emotional leader MLB
-redshirt frosh safety
-recruiting coordinator

Gymnastics coach Kathy Klages quit this week over her conduct sexual harassment of her athletes by team Dr Nasser.
s**t is indeed starting to break down in East Lansing...from the twitter feed of Henson tonight...
Sparty football is in total meltdown, this is bad and not funny.

One of my proudest moments as a BG sports fan happened after the 88 CCHA playoffs. Me and my crew were walking in the tube outside JLA...Sparty fans are doing the "Go Green Go White" bit...so I yelled "Go Green Go White Third place is all right". They faced much laughter and derision...
I felt like Loyd Bentsen in his debate with Dan Quayle

Just more fodder for my dwindling interest in college athletics. It's disgusting what goes on and gets covered up on campuses.

I love the sport of college football.
That said, scandals like Baylor, Penn State, and the mess brewing in East Lansing reinforce the belief that the sport has gotten too big. Penn State bigwigs put their football program ahead of the moral compass, turning a blind eye to utterly morally reprehensible behavior for decades out of fear that their beloved football program would suffer should the truth come out.
Baylor bigwigs got green with envy at the powerhouses Texas and Oklahoma had built. So along came a great Xs and Os coach and everyone involved gladly took major character risks in recruiting to build their own powerhouse. When you take so many character risks, you are likely to find some serious bad apples, and when they did, they turned a blind eye in favor of their newly created power program.
Obviously I don't want to jump the gun on MSU as these are allegations. These allegations have shades of both Penn State and Baylor. Would the recruiting coordinator have allegedly covered for the suspects the same way if the suspects were any random university students and he were any random university staff member? Would these suspects even be students at the university if they were not football players? Chances are there have been other incidents - would any other student still be a student after similar incidents?
Sometimes college football has gotten too big for its own good.

Something I heard a long time ago...................
Bobby Knight once said: Every team in the Top 25 has cheated their way to get there.
