Corey Davis vs Roger Lewis

Well last year Roger Lewis came out of college after his junior season to enter the NFL draft. I remember people saying he would go 5th or 6th round but went undrafted. At that time Corey Davis of Western Michigan was thinking about declaring for the draft but went back for his senior season. Davis is projected as a possibly top 12 pick. Obviously Davis made the correct decision and he got to play in a New Years Day bowl game. Do you think Roger Lewis made the correct decision for his career or would he have been better coming back and playing another year in college. Take your bias opinions away. Don't look at this as being selfish and wanted Lewis to play to help BG last year. I'm saying, would Lewis been better playing an additional year. Would he have been drafted in this years draft.

Given our QB situation last season, I don't think Lewis would have put up near the production he did in 2015. Thusly, I think he made the right decision to leave.

The flip side of the opinion is that our quarterback (James Morgan is extremeley talented, he just needs game experience) may have had a much better year if he had someone other than Scotty Miller to throw to. Giving him an NFL-caliber receiver would have certainly helped.

Scotty Miller is an allMAC caliber guy..why call him out?

Davis has drawn raves for his understanding of the route tree and his ability to run them crisply. That may be part of the reason he's a more highly regarded prospect than any of the NFL MAC WR's last year (Lewis, Braverman, Sharpe)

I'm sorry, I think I was misunderstood. I think Scotty is great. I meant it would be great if he didn't only have one guy (being Scotty) to throw to. It's too easy for defenses to just key on one player and make it their goal to stop him. It would be much harder to defend Scotty AND Roger at the same time, rather than just one of them. I think Morgan would have been much better if he had a full arsenal at his disposal.

I think the Morgan-Miller connection is going to be huge for us in the next few years. I apologize if it came across that I didn't think the guy is talented. That's certainly not what I meant.

Lewis had two knocks - personal background and age. His personal background would be a question for GMs so long as the NFL has a domestic abuse problem. As for age, no matter how much we all wish, we never get younger, we never stay the same age. Except my wife.
So Lewis made the right decision. Another year would not have helped and could have presented an injury or production risk.

Oh..I'm sorry...I didn't consider that possibility. I think Morgan is going to succeed here bigly....really looking forward to seeing him work with Miller, Guyton, et al..

Lewis made the right choice last year. J Mo is gonna be a hell of a QB for us.

Davis goes 5th!!! 5th!!!. I'm no mock draft junkie...but I don't think I heard anyone saying he'd go that high

I remember watching Bowling Green beat Western Michigan in Kalamazoo two years ago and openly raving about Roger Lewis. Even as Corey Davis made plays, I said, aloud "Nice play. But he's no Roger Lewis. Lewis will be playing on Sundays." It got to the point where a Bronco fan moved down a few rows (this was weeknight #MACtion, so there was room, of course), I assume because he got tired of listening to me talk about Roger Lewis.

Perhaps I could have been nicer about Corey Davis. He's a stud, no doubt.

Made no sense for him to come back. Matty Ice was gone as was much of the offense and his stock wouldn't get any higher than it was. It was his past issues and his poor combine numbers to blame for him not getting drafted.

Davis is a better player than Roger. Not saying Roger's not a good player, but Davis is better.

I do agree that it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Knapke/Morgan had Lewis AND Scotty Miller as available options this past season.
