Spartan Stadium
Spartan Stadium
Hey everyone! I just bought tickets for the September 2nd game at Sparty in Section 3, row 9 (get some orange and brown around me, people!) and I was wondering if anyone had ever been to Spartan Stadium in East Lansing. If anyone has any travel tips or parking tips, I am all ears.
Thanks! Go BG!

Re: Spartan Stadium
I went there ten years ago for the BG /MSU game. As I recall there's plenty of parking with grass for tailgating a bit of a distance away with a shuttle to get to the stadium. It was not too far if you'd rather walk.

Re: Spartan Stadium
Check about the alcohol rules for tailgating. Alot has changed over the past 3 years. It used to be Munn Ice Arena was an alcohol free tailgating lot but last year there was FOUR alcohol free lots. Also, even where alcohol is permitted no Kegs allowed. Beer in cans only. Not even paper cups allowed. I'm sure that's hard to enforce but only beer in cans allowed. Also, oversized vehicles, including a Ford F350 must park in the RV lots. So if you are going to tailgate I recommend doing a little research ahead of time. Parking is reasonable compared to UM and OSU

Re: Spartan Stadium
There's plenty of parking in the general area surrounding Spartan Stadium. Tailgaiting rules have been relaxed a bit, at least they were when I went to the OSU/MSU game a couple years ago. The Sparty fans I ran into during the 2007 game had nothing but positive things to say about BG, a game that was tied at half and saw BG ultimately lose 28-17. My experiences up there for football have always been positive but of course I'm not a Michigan or OSU fan either.

Was there in 2007. Nothing great or bad stands out in my memory. We're able to park in a grassy area no problem and I don't remember traffic being much of a problem. They put the BG fans mainly in end zone seats.

Make sure to check what their rule on bringing bags into the stadium is/what size bags are allowed. Me and some friends went to the game in 2007 and our one friend wasn't allowed to bring her purse into the game, believe it was too big. She ended up hiding it in a bush near the stadium because we didn't want to walk back to where we parked

Re: Spartan Stadium
At the '07 game my friend tried to take in a completely empty clear plastic water bottle. It didn't even have the label on it, so it was entirely transparent from top to bottom. He took it with him as a spittoon and they refused to allow him to bring it in, despite him showing them that it was just an empty small plastic water bottle (I'm talking about the little ones that come in a 24 pack, not one of the big half gallon jugs). He explained that it would be better for him to spit in that, rather than them having tobacco juice all over their stadium. They still wouldn't let him bring it in. I thought that was a little ridiculous. Apparently at that time, tobacco wasn't prohibited but small, empty plastic bottles were.
Aside from that, we had no problems and didn't take any abuse from Spartan fans.

That's my recollection as well. It was a good time and game and we hung with Sparty all day.kdog27 wrote:Was there in 2007. Nothing great or bad stands out in my memory. Re: Spartan Stadium
I sat in 106 for the game in 2007, there were several BG fans sitting there. Tickets are dirt cheap on Stubhub for most of the visitor sections so chances are you're going to be able to find a good deal.
