Ball State's all-everything receiver has made himself eligible for the NFL draft. I don't know much about what BSU has left, but this one has got to hurt.

I swear I had a computer-generated "Dante Ridgeway" on my BGSU team in NCAAF 2004.

I think he was a TE, though. :P

With him gone, maybe Chuck or Steve can make an All-MAC team next year.

Best of luck to Ridgeway, though. He was a really good player at a lousy football school.

Is this the deal where if you don't sign with an agent you can back out after the draft?

I certainly hope so. Ball state really needs him. Anything that helps these bottom feeder MAC teams haev better teams, helps us too. And he is a difference maker.

I don't believe so. Last I knew that was only for hoops.

Can someone officially claim that this is the death knell for Cardinals football? Can Grant do it, or does it have to come in a formal press release from Rick Christ? This is just getting too sad.

Hey, maybe Letterman can suit up for them? I'm sure he still has some elegibility remaining! 8)

I think they changed that for football as well. That's why Mike Williams was so screwed this year. But then again, maybe that was a special circumstance.

Here's the skinny from the NCAA webpage.

5. As an enrolled student-athlete, am I allowed to enter the draft without jeopardizing my eligibility?

Division I-A and I-AA football student-athletes are permitted to enter the NFL draft one time without jeopardizing eligibility in that sport, provided the student-athlete is not drafted by any team in that league and the student-athlete declares his intention to resume intercollegiate football participation within 72 hours after the NFL draft declaration date. Further, the 72-hour period begins at 12:01 a.m., after the NFL draft declaration deadline. This date is traditionally in mid-January.

In the above circumstance, the individual may not have an oral or written agreement with an agent or not received any benefits from an agent in order to return to or enroll in an NCAA institution.

Considering their recruiting conquests so far and coming off of a year with a first year coach, I think declaring their D-1 death in football would be very much premature.

I think he is going get drafted. He was one of the best receivers in the country in my opinion.

I could declare it, but I don't think it would have much weight coming from a lowly band geek so I don't think I will.
