New fence around the Doyt
New fence around the Doyt
I just came across a tweet with a picture of what looks like a new fence around the Doyt. It may not be a major project but it certainly looks better than the crappy looking chain-link fence that was there. The pic I saw was only of the area behind the scoreboard in the south end zone. I assume it has been replaced everywhere the chain-link fence was.

I can't wait to see it. A good fence could make a difference. The chain link fence was so meh.

Why put an new fence around a facility that may be renovated unless it is chain link with construction warnings?
Are the renovations off the table or do they need some common sense advice?

I have no idea if the renovations are on, off, or even under the table. However, the new fence looks much nicer than the old one, and if they decide to do renovations at some point, I'm sure they could do so without damaging the fence.FalconTurf wrote:Why put an new fence around a facility that may be renovated unless it is chain link with construction warnings?

That's not how it works out especially on a LARGE renovation. This is the equivalent of paving the road before a sewer line project. Sure all the lines are 3-10 feet from the road but watch the road repairs that don't match and become the reason for the next repave.threestooges wrote:I have no idea if the renovations are on, off, or even under the table. After 50 years at the Doyt if we only had a nice fence, this was the missing LINK to the whole facility.

The fencing looks nice, but I am not a fan of the new "Main Entry" point that is going up in line with the sidewalk leading to Stroh. It seems like there will be lettering overhead. Hopefully is says "Doyt Perry Stadium" and the ever stupid "the doyt"
I also looks like the parking around the stadium has been eliminated, which is a good move. To me, that really gave the place a high school stadium feel. It also looks like the concourse will be bigger. Time will tell.

Thank you very much! Even if it's minor, that is an upgrade. The paint job makes the stadium look better. Now, get rid of the salmon seats and we look good.BGSU33 wrote:Falconfreak90 wrote:Any pics??

I'm not against a main entry point being there, but I do hope they put in some sort of nice walkways in that area then because walking to and from the east and west grandstands is a cluster. You have the tents on the paved area and behind them are all kinds of cords to walk over and then the grass. The grass is easy to walk through in nice weather, but when it's not, it becomes a wet muddy mess. Thanks for the info about the parking being eliminated. I had no idea and yes, I agree, I'm sure it'll be an improvement. I also like the sound of a nice archway entry point. If anyone can provide pics of the progress, it would be much appreciate. It's the Journey... wrote:The fencing looks nice, but I am not a fan of the new "Main Entry" point that is going up in line with the sidewalk leading to Stroh. Agree...that fence is nice, but it also doesn't look like the kind of thing you're planning on destroying part of to do a major reno.

Pretty sure they could probably disassemble whatever section of the fence they need to remove for any renovation to the stadium without just totally destroying it.

Re: New fence around the Doyt
Maybe this means large-scale renovations are off the table then. The new fence is 5-10 feet farther away from the stadium on the east and west sides, so I still maintain that there is plenty of room to do smaller-scale renovations or improvements to the current structure without damaging the fence. If they wanted to tear down the stands and start all over, the fence would probably be destroyed unless they went Flintstones style & brought in dinosaurs. Those guys are tall enough to scoop up a giant chunk of concrete in their mouths and easily deposit it on the outside of the fence. Yep, if they ever do a major renovation of the Doyt, I highly recommend they call the Slate Rock and Gravel Company.FalconTurf wrote:That's not how it works out especially on a LARGE renovation.
