9 of 13 recruits are 3 stars!

Post by bowlgreen »

Bowling Green now has 13 recruits, 9 of them 3 stars.

According to 247sports, their class is currently 3rd in MAC and 4th out of the 48 schools that make up the Mountain West, MAC, Conference USA & Sun Belt. Their 80.41 per player average is 2nd in MAC and higher than some lower P5 schools like Purdue.

For rivals comparison:
6/17 Northern IL recruits are 3 stars,
4/12 Ball State,
3/9 Central Michigan, etc.

Ok,
I'll keep saying what I have since the VERBALS have started. Will these kids actually sign with us , especially in the early signing period in Dec.?
I would think that our success ( or lack of same)'will go along way in determining this. But on paper the number of 3 stars looks very good. And even getting verbals from kids who supposedly passed up P-5 schools looks even better.

There's no way of knowing who's going to sign...we'll always gain a few and lose a few. Right now..let's hope for the best

Never really understood the star system of ranking recruits. Outside of probably the top 75-100 guys there's really no way of knowing how good players are going to end up. A lot of that rests on the coaches shoulders of developing them. Plenty of guys in the NFL who I'm sure weren't highly touted out of high school but they worked their tail off, were well coached and put themselves in the best position to succeed.

Jp,
You're right about the NFL players. I read an article awhile ago that mentioned a significant number of NFL players were 2 stars in their HS ratings.

Agreed. Stars system is bogus, it's entirely based off of which teams offer which players for the most part.

Having said that...to get 3 stars you more than likely had to have at least 3 to 4 teams at the American Conference level or above to gain those stars. When I post the stuff about recruiting, what gets me excited, is the fact that 9 players have turned down teams from the 6 conferences higher than the MAC in order to play for Bowling Green. A couple of these guys have turned down significant Big Ten schools.
