Re: Scrimmage 8/12
I ended up attending and took some notes.
Defense was very good, guys flying to the ball and for the most part not missing assignments. One turnover caused on a bad snap. One thing I noticed with some of the new guys on D is that the secondary has some length to them which hopefully will improve pass coverage.
Offense was hit and miss. Morgan struggled on some short throws and didn't throw any deep passes. Miller sat out and Guyton was the only guy who caught more than one pass. Running game was solid, Cleveland looked a bit faster compared to last year. Wilson had a couple nice runs before he was taken out after a shot to his left shoulder. Loy really struggled while Doege throw a nice TD pass to Phoutavong who proceeded to celebrate and then get an earful from Jinks.
Kicking game was good, Suder made all his kicks, longest was 46 into the wind. New punter transfer had a couple good punts, others were iffy. Davidson again impressed and he'll be playing on Sundays.
My takeaway: If the offense can find their groove I think BG competes in almost every game this season. Still some question marks at receiver and hopefully it's sorted out by the time camp is over. Wilson and Cleveland will be a good tandem and the guys behind them (Domer, Stephens, Clair) all impressed. Defense was a pleasant surprise and hopefully it translates to success in game action.

Re: Scrimmage 8/12
Was the passing game out of sync because they were just not on the same page together or was it the defense forcing problems? Or a little of both? And it's not uncommon for the defense to be ahead of the offense at this stage of camp.

Re: Scrimmage 8/12
My question, since I was unable to get back to BG for this, how many folks showed up to watch this scrimmage?
I've been to a few of these games in past when only a handful of folks were in stands, and one Time when several hundred showed up.

Rough estimate was maybe a couple hundred. There was a post-scrimmage luncheon where people could pick up their season tickets that was well attended.Class of 61 wrote:My question, since I was unable to get back to BG for this, how many folks showed up to watch this scrimmage?
