True. Allow me to rephrase then. It cannot be sustained across coaches. I do not believe Dino left the personnel to execute his system once he left. We are stuck between two systems right now with the inability to run either one successfully.hammb wrote:It was perfectly sustainable in Oregon until Chip Kelly went to the NFL.It's the Journey... wrote:Now we see just how big of a mistake "Falcon Fast" was. It was perfectly sustainable at Baylor until they got all rapey.
The system can be sustained, and it's a brilliant way to play football.
This is how I see it...gonna take some time to get out of this funk. It's the Journey... wrote:True. Allow me to rephrase then. It cannot be sustained across coaches. If you're looking to rebuild, burning redshirts is the last thing you should be doing. Clawson bit that bullet in 2010 and 2011 and knew it would translate into future success. Babers piggybacked the tail end of Clawson's work, added a few transfers and parlayed it into a decent payday. I agree Jinks is in an unenviable position given the turnover at his position, but over the course of 17 games we've seen very little in the way of progress. Even if he can recruit well, if he can't coach and maximize that talent, it's more wasted time. That's my biggest fear when it comes to him. We all know he's going to get at least three years to show what he can do, but he's already burnt up half that time with little to nothing to show for it.It's the Journey... wrote:My point is this head coach did not hire himself. He interviewed for an opportunity and was selected. Also, this AD did not make this hire. The coach was in place when he arrived. We can only do two things as fans right now. We can keep bitching about how bad things are and how bad of a hire this is and a bunch of other things we cannot change. OR we can understand we are in a bad spot but keep supporting the team AND coaches. We all know it's bad, it was bad with Blackney, and it was bad with Ankney. This coach has had the chance to put one recruiting class together. The least we can do is see what he does when he has his recruits in place.
But support does not mean criticism isn't an option. I would shake up the staff assignments NOW. The plays coming in from the O and D coordinators are terrible. I would also burn every red shirt and get the younger guys reps. We have very little leadership from the upperclassmen.
But as bad as it is, you will still find me in my seats to support this team.
As bad as the LSU situation may be, they have the resources to buy out that contract and get someone better in -- at just about any time they want.dstubb wrote:Could be worse. We could be LSU, who has a coach with a 25–31 HC record and is locked in at $3.5 million/year through 2021.
I am guessing LSU can't pay, because they are still paying Les Miles and they gave Orgeron a ridiculous buyout clause for a coach with no track record of success. They are stuck with him for a while.Falconwriter wrote:As bad as the LSU situation may be, they have the resources to buy out that contract and get someone better in -- at just about any time they want.dstubb wrote:Could be worse. BG does not have those kinds of resources, so they'll be stuck with any bad coaching hires through the duration of the contract.
I'd rather be in LSU's shoes, really bad loss and all. At least they have hope of turning things around in the next several years.
