Can't find a link on the Blade website.
"UT athlete kicked off team after drug arrest.
...he was arrested for allegedly selling the painkiller OxyContin. Rodney Gamby was charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs He was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court on the charge and an unrelated minor misdemeanor traffic warrant.
"Mr. Gamby ... was caught selling the prescription drug. Police seized a pill bottle containing seven 80 mg OxyContin pills. No other athletes are being investigated.
"Rodney Gamby has been removed from our football team. My heart goes out to his family, and my thoughts and prayers are with Rodney. I will continue to support Rodney as a person, but he will no longer be a member of our football program," UT football coach Tom Amstutz said.
"Gamby played the whip linebacker position and was a third year sophomore."

Ouch...he was a local hero at Toledo St Francis. Oxycontin is a nasty. nasty drug when not used correctly. People can and do kill for it, so I guess it's not too suprising to see a kid throw away his college scholarship over it.

I really wish for the sake of TU's student athletes that they didn't make it so easy to feel superior to them.
I will certainly be keeping this young man in my prayers and I hope the rest of you will do the same (unless you don't pray, which is OK too

).

The ironic thing is on the MAC boards, a rockette fan is accusing Gregg Brandon of covering up things that BG players have "done".
Typical UT "thought" process....our guys are getting arrested so let's try to trash BG's program.

Wrong

Factman - you shouldn't talk about what you think Toledo Tom is going to do because we already know about Greg Brandon's morals and the things he lets his athletes get away with.
Falconfreak,
I believe this is the quote from the Rocket fan that you are talking about. You are one of five or ten falcon fans whose posts/opinions I sometimes agree with but atleast respect even if I don't agree with it. Based on that, I have to believe that you are purposely missing the point with this one. The Rocket fan (Rocketfootball) that you are referring to only knocked on BG's team after the BG fan made accusations about the Toledo staff even though the article said that Gamby was removed from the team. Toledo fans aren't calling out BG's program just because a player on our team was arrested as you suggested. It was only stated in defense after the BG poster made the initial accusations.

Fair enough, but what do you "already know" about Gregg Brandon's morals?

Ok....but why did rocketfootball bring up Gregg Brandon and his "covering up" things? There is nothing that I can think of that would justify that comment. But look at what has happened the last few years...how many UT players have been in trouble?
I would never say all BG athletes are angels, they aren't. But why does rf try to accuse GB of covering up things?
I don't know

I don't know what he knows/thinks about Gregg Brandon, but I am just saying that he was only responding to factman's accusations. I am not saying that RF is right or wrong, I'm just saying that I don't see UT fans pointing fingers at the BG program. FWIW, I think that nearly all UT fans are glad that Amstutz responded the way he did. This is the only way to stop this crap from happening in the future.
I don't know and it's only an assumption, but I think RF was actually referring to the Charles Sharon incident. Don't quote me on that one because I can't speak for him, but that is my gut feel. You are right that a lot of stuff has happened at UT the past couple years, but FWIW Amstutz removed a kid named Billy Relford early in the season (who was supposed to be a future stud) after something happened that I don't even know about. You are right though, with everything that has happened at UT this past season or so, there is not much room for us Rocket fans to point fingers, unless of course they are pointed at Columbus.
O&B, I don't already know anything about GB's morals. I just wish this stuff would quit happening on our teams. This sort of stuff should stay in Columbus.

There! We agree. Was that so hard?

Being accused of stealing a pizza, vs. being accused of selling one of the most dangerous prescription drugs illegally...I guess I don't see how these two are even close.

Um, in fairness, the allegations were alot bigger than "stealing a pizza", but since absolutely NOTHING was heard of it after the week that it supposedly happened, I don't know how valid it can really be anyway.
And in fairness to Toledo, Tommy has cracked down pretty good on some of the latest violations, but there really has been alot of them to go through.

Ah yes, the typical Rockette response to the serious indescretions of their players, cite some imaginary or unproven allegations against BGSU student athletes as proff that Gregg Brandon "covers things up". Rather than addressing the continued anti-social and criminal activities of their football players, they drag us into it. I'm sure if we wait long enough, good ol Trent jackson will be brought up for the umpteenth time.
Everyone knows that Gregg Brandon doesn't have the time to cover anythig up. He's too busy out-recruting Fatboy and watering the field down.
