QB runs still a problem

We've seen BG struggle all season long w/ QB runs, usually from "multi dimensional " QBs. Last night, Kent's QB, Bollas, was NOT one of those types. Yet he was KSU leading rusher.
Not to be overly critical of a BG team that truly looked ready to play, but still had trouble focusing on what Kent did in 2nd Q. Perhaps biggest question in my mind was why Kent didn't start game using similar strategy as in 2nd Q. They've HAD to have seen film of our probs.

I agree that it's an issue, but I also think it has improved significantly from the beginning of the year. We still have work to do in that regard, I won't dispute that.

I'm not sure I understand why this has been such an issue for us. According to ESPN's Ray Bentley, we put another guy in the box in the second half and that seemed to fix the problem we had during the second quarter.

Is there something about the defense we are running that makes us choose between putting another guy in the box (and, presumably, making us vulnerable against the pass) or leaving ourselves helpless against running QBs? Is it a matter of personnel?

This is a strangely persistent issue.

On the flip side of this topic, this is a piece of our offense that has hurt us since Matty J...not having a QB that can effectively run the ball.

The QB runs against us is and always will be a problem until we learn and show we can defend it. The kid from South Dakota proved right out of the gate we were not capable of defending or slowing it and teams this year who had dual-threat QB’s ran on us and those that did not still ran the QB because the ability to do so is there.

I’ll tell you one thing right now, we’re not going to see the light of day at Ford Field again until we learn to defend it as it’s a staple part of the team who will be there again this year from the East and has the same QB for two more years after this season. This is where Clawson excelled. He identified the threat, built teams to beat them, and won a championship as the end result and we were left with a program that could contend for two more years after he left. The win over Kent State was nice an all, but they are worse than we are. You can’t be the best until you beat the best and winning against teams like Ohio or Toledo is a way different animal than a lame duck like Kent State.

Amen to that! A mobile QB in the MAC is almost a necessity and has hampered us big time this year on both sides of the ball.
