Who has impressed you this year?

Even though our record this year is only 2-8, I feel there have been some nice bright spots this year.

Jarret Doege - Wow, this kid can play. He makes the throws that he needs to make (and if he misses it's only by a yard or so), has really good pocket presence, keeps his eyes downfield when he's under pressure, and knows when to chuck the ball away when the throw isn't there. He has made some mistakes this year, but his positives have clearly outweighed his negatives. According to ESPN, his stats are significantly better than James Morgan's.

NAME CMP ATT YDS CMP% YDS/A TD INT RAT
James Morgan 96 212 1260 45.3 5.94 9 7 102.6
Jarret Doege 82 124 855 66.1 6.90 6 1 138.4

Andrew Clair - This kid has moves like Barry Sanders. Last night, it felt like he was starting to try and do too much with bouncing it outside all the time, but at other times he made all of the right decisions. On the season, he's been more right than wrong. I'm excited to see this kid run for three more years!

Teo Redding - He's a senior, and it makes me sad. He's finally able to show what he can do, and it's been amazing to watch. Teo has size and athleticism; I wouldn't be surprised to see him on an NFL roster next season.

Nate Locke - When Austin Valdez left a couple years ago, we weren't sure what we'd have in the middle. Nate Locke has really stepped it up this year and shown what he can do. Even though I'm not sure he has NFL size, he has NFL heart (whatever that means).

Joe Davidson - Here's a guy that can make a roster next season as a punter. Not many punters make it to the NFL each year, but Joe has the ability to do it. He is one of the top punters in the nation currently, and he has a knack for pinning teams deep. The stat they showed on the TV last night was impressive: he has three punts downed at the 1 yard line, and only two touchbacks.

Jake Suder - He's really stepped up this year. He's 10th in the nation in FG%, tied for 7th for makes, and he's been automatic inside 40 yards. He's been a weapon this year that we've needed when our offense got stalled. He's also 2-3 on kicks of 40-49 and missed his only 50+. Next year could be an excellent year to watch BG's next great kicker; I'd love to see him make the next level and do what Suisham did.

Clair, Doege, and that young TE who scored last night. Other than that, not much.

Doege, Clair, Wilcox & Bright are the freshman who have really impressed me so far. If the redshirted OLs turn out like Bright next year, I think we'll have a solid front.

Redding has been a human highlight reel, Suder has been the most consistent kicker I can ever remember having (Suisham was just barely before I got to BG), and Nate Locke has been a clear leader on defense.

It's been a terrible year, but that hasn't kept a few bright spots from shining through.

Offense - Clair, Doege, Wilcox, Redding
Defense - Harris, Lautenen, Jeffries

Suder has been a pleasant surprise.
