Well, Rock Bottom is finally here

This program is teetering on the edge and is in jeopardy of approaching utter embarrassment. We've lost a player every day this week thus far and there's more coming. This program is a shell of what it was just two years ago when we were preparing for the MAC Championship this week. Think about that for a minute, and then think where we are now. This year we won two measly games, which is half as many as we won last year in a terrible season. Under Jinks we've suffered two of the worst beatings in our 100-year history, went winless at home for the first time in a century, lost to an FCS team for the first time in 30 years, saw our rival cut through us like we were invisible for the most points in the series history, and our head coach still has no clue what the hell he's doing. What's more, not only are we losing 20-plus lettermen from this year's team, now we're losing scholarship underclassmen left and right. And more are coming.
For those of you counting on any single player staying at BG right now, you're only kidding yourself. Jinks has not only lost this program, he's lost his (returning) team. And if you think we'll be better next year, think again. We play THREE Power 5 schools next year, so there's three losses right there. We play at Ohio and Toledo. There's two more guaranteed losses right there. Akron and Buffalo have blown past us, Miami is better than we are despite choking at the 1, we'll lose at least one more West crossover game leaving our only real chances at a win vs Kent State and an FCS Eastern Kentucky team and maybe Ball State if the MAC scheduling Gods have mercy on us. Jinks talked about signing a small recruiting class this year. Well, scholarships are now opening up daily and he's already lost two of his top targets who have decommited, and Nord are coming. We are in a world of trouble and there's no foreseeable change in sight. No, the sky isn't falling. It already fell.

I knew someone was going to try to turn this into a bad thing. It isn't.
Would you like to be slotted behind Andrew Clair or Jarrett Doege on a depth chart? I sure wouldn't. The players who want to transfer all appear to be trapped behind more talented players. It was looking unlikely these guys were ever going to get meaningful playing time here. So they are looking to transfer.
I wish them all well. Maybe they can find a better role somewhere else. I'm sure there is a football team out there that would be delighted to have each of them.
This isn't a crisis. This is an opportunity. This frees up more scholarships. I am confident that Jinks will make the most of this opportunity by bringing in young men who can actually challenge for playing time. Jinks already has some talented verbals who appear ready to sign. Let's go out and get more.
Jinks has not only lost this program, he's lost his (returning) team.
No he hasn't. Not at all.

Okay, Chicken Little.

That's exactly how the rest of the MAC East teams feel about BG's program. As bad as they may be, it isn't a crisis. It's an opportunity to finally beat up on BG each year. Thanks to the Texas High School Coaching standout Mike Jinx.

I don't know Schadenfreude, you sure your not getting a little free Fricker's from the Athletic Department like John Wagner? Going to start calling you Jinx Junior!

Hate to break this to you, but college football players get hurt. A lot. We are in NO position to be able to lose even one person from our current depth chart much less as many as we've already lost in one week alone. If you think this is not a "bad thing" ... boy...really at a loss for words. Wow.

The sun'll come out Tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar That tomorrow
There'll be sun!
Just thinkin' about Tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs, And the sorrow
'Til there's none!
When I'm stuck in a day That's gray,
And lonely, I just stick out my chin And Grin,
And Say,
Oh The sun'll come out Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on Til tomorrow
Come what may

I just don't see it that way. If a kid has been here a couple years and he isn't even close to getting on the field, I'm very open to rolling the dice again and seeing if we can bring someone who is a better fit. Jinks is a good recruiter; I am confident he can go out there and get players who are at least as good a fit here as any of the players who are deciding to transfer. In some cases, he may find someone who is a better fit.
Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if some or all of these players' decisions to transfer have the tacit or explicit backing of the coaches involved. We saw that statement from Jinks the other day supporting Morgan's decision to transfer. I don't think that was happy talk. We all know Morgan is, at best, third on the depth chart right now with another QB on the way this next fall. Morgan's decision to transfer is probably best for him. It works out well for us, too.
In the case of RB Terence Stephens Jr.: He had 13 carries this year. He was at best third behind Andrew Clair and Matt Domer on the depth chart. We also have a redshirt freshman named Bryson Denley from Texas who got 5 carries this season. If needed, maybe he will be ready, too. To supplement them, I would expect Jinks to make sure we bring in another RB so we have another option if necessary.
I'm not losing a bit of sleep over any of this.

I'm with Schad. The guys leaving were stuck behind frankly more talented players. If they don't want to be at BG any longer then best of luck. Hopefully the staff can use the extra schollies to nab a couple sleepers.

If this is Rock Bottom, then I'll take it. That means we work our way out of it from here.
At least our Rock Bottom is better than Ohio's was (for years and years prior to Solich), or Miami's just a few years ago, or Akron's before Bowden, or Buffalo's about a decade ago, or Kent's forever, or even Ball State's right now. Time to start the climb out.

Do you guys not follow college football? Of course the 2 QBs with years of eligibility left are going to bolt. They want to play. You want Morgan to sit here and not play? You want Cunningham to get passed over by Doege and not even get a chance to play (I am not arguing he should have) and not transfer? 2 other guys who didn't play this year transferred. Maybe they want to play?
I will consider it a problem when guys who are a part of the 2 deep start transferring.
