Now that this season is over...

Post by Kruks1207 »

It's time to lighten the mood here...

1. How long have you been following Falcon Football?

2. What is the best Falcon team you've seen play?

3. Who were your favorite players on that team to watch?

I'll go first...

1. 28 years
2. 2003 team hands down.
3. Josh Harris, Keon Newson

I was born in 1998, so I have a smaller sample size than most on this site.

1. I would think about 12 years.
2. 2013 and 2015 were equally great to me, for much different reasons.
3. I loved watching Matt Johnson, Gehrig Dieter, Travis Greene, and Roger Lewis play. It was always explosive.

Since 1981. I sort of lost track of BG football in the 90's but re-acquired interest after the turn of the century. So I'll split this in two.

Early years: I believe it was 1985 we went 11-1 losing badly in the old Cal Bowl after losing our coach. Good season with a very bad ending.

More recently, I'd say 2013 because we had a good balance of offense and defense. I'm an old linebacker so I like good defense which is why I like 2013 over 2015. I also really liked watching Travis Greene in 2013. He was still good the next two years but 2013 was fun. 2003 and 2004 were also fun but I still have to give the nod to 2013.

Edit.........good point about 1982....that rivaled 1985 for me.

1. 17 years
2. 2013. Although the 2012 defense was better due to one player ....
3. Chris Jones. Also Travis Greene, Matt Johnson, and BooBoo Gates

I've been following the team for 29 years. The best team in that time was probably the 2003 team. Beating Northern Illinois in a battle of ranked teams was glorious -- one of the best moments I can remember watching this team. Josh Harris was splendid all season.

That said, I wouldn't blame members of the 1991 team for debating the point. Their only loss was by a touchdown at West Virginia. When they beat Fresno State, that was a huge upset on our part.

Also in 03, beating Purdue on the road, a 7 point loss in Columbus and a motor city bowl win over A good Northwestern team. Gameday here in BG. But 91 was a special year too.

The offense in 03 was obviously more high powered and excellent receivers and running backs. 91 team had a better tight end and a great defense. All depends on if you like high power high scoring games or smash mouth grind it out football. Both seasons were great. Gameday against NIU was amazing.

The 85 team doesn't get nearly the credit they should thanks to Stolz...that was a very good team that was abandoned by their coach before their final game.

That might be the best team I've seen here

They were ranked heading into Fresno. A shame the way that season ended.

OK, I'd have to agree with you " youngsters" on several of these teams. But MY (old guy) favorite HAS to be the 1959 "small college" NATIONAL Championship team, featuring Bernie Casey, Bob Ruiblin, Jack Harbaugh etc.
Many of these guys were my classmates so I had a close relationship with them. I'm not saying they could've beaten , say, the 2003 team , perhaps the best of recent yrs., but DAMN! This was a fun team to watch.

Been following Falcon Football since 1982.

Fave team is 2003, followed very closely by 1985....and 2001.

Chalk another one up for J5, who is my all time fave BG player, and The General, Janssen Patton. Oh, and can't forget Cole Magner.

Awesome topic, BTW.

I'm 32 and have been following Falcon sports since I was about 10 years old. So 22 years.

For me, the best Falcon team was 2003. I was at 13 of the 14 games missing only the Purdue game. That was a magical team and year. I remember the bus ride to Miami Ohio against Big Ben. Sat next to Coach Brandons son and talked about college mascots the whole way down.

Cole Magner and Charles Sharon were some of my favorites. Who can forget Janssen Patton?!
