So we know Haynes is out at Kent, and I just read that Jason Candle is interviewing at UCF. I have to imagine he'd take that if offered (although I've seen a lot of names floated for that gig). Any other rumors on the head coaches within the MAC? I'm a little surprised Rod Carey hasn't tried to jump to a low Power 5 job yet to get paid. Did he miss his window after those first couple 11-12 win seasons?

I thought about that, too. Amazing how quickly they rose to a program that can pay $2M+ / yr for their head job, although I suppose it's easier to scale when you have an enrollment of 65,000.

UCF hired the Missouri OC as their next HC, so it looks like Candle is staying put for now. I can't imagine he'll be there longer than another year if he puts up another 8+ wins.

Given how it's gone so far, I wouldn't be surprised if Candle leaves UT for UT. Tennessee has been turned down by everybody and apparently they were keenly interested in Matt Campbell, who said no after getting a big raise. A good consolation prize would be Campbell's former OC and successor. And besides, Candle's done one thing neither Campbell nor most other Tennessee targets nor most recent Tennessee coaches have done: win a conference. Even if that conference was so bad that it made the 2005 and 2007 MACs look stellar by comparison.

Their fans would never allow that.

Oh I agree their fans would chase him away but everyone else has said no. But since Tennessee has exhausted plans A B C through V, time for plan W. If Tee Martin (good choice if you ask me) says no, then the idea of hiring a guy who has only worked in Ohio isn't out of the question.
Textbook case of mishandling a coaching search and fans mishandling expectations.

Kent appears to have found a head coach: Former Babers (and BGSU) assistant Sean Lewis.

Hopefully he hasn't learned too much from Babers. Good luck to the Flashes.

He was one of my favs for our opening in 2015 to maintain continuity. No telling how he will be building from scratch because that is exactly the need at Kent. Good luck, and I bet that offense will be exciting quickly.
Hurry up offense at Kent? What??

Matt Johnson has joined Lewis at Kent State as an offensive GA and assistant QB coach.

I think this is a bad coaching hire and they saw BG and did it anyway. This offense is great in the short term but you have to adjust everything so much to run it that if and when that coach leaves it blows everything up.

Andrew Sowder will be joining Lewis at Kent State. The Flashes are going to be BGSU-lite.

Interesting article in Cleveland PD on Vince Kerhes, the Mt Union HC.
Said he actually interviewed for the KSU job, was told they'd get back to him. ( but evidently didn't.)
Most interesting about it was that KSU tried to hire his dad many yrs ago, but he wasn't interested. Seems like Vince might be more open to a change if "right " job came along.
My. Union's success is almost unheard of at ANY level.

If you would have told me that Kent State was hiring a former OC of ours, I actually would have guessed Sterlin Gilbert. His career progression has been remarkabke:
2012-13: OC at Eastern Illinois
2014: OC at Bowling Green
2015: OC at Tulsa
2016: OC at Texas
2017: OC at South Florida
He's going to be a head coach soon.
