Power 5 Bias on AP All-American Team

AP All-American team is out and there are three (3) punters better than Joe Davidson?

Texas, Florida and Utah punters round out the top three teams. Lets see who's kicking on Sunday next year.

Not sure why the Utah guy made it but the other 2 have really good stats.

Do you really think he'll be in the NFL? I think he's good enough but there isn't much turnover with one roster spot per team.

Davidson was 4th in net punting and only had 2 touchbacks.

Only 2 touchbacks? He's a punter not a place kicker. You don't want touchbacks on punts. You want to pin them inside the 10.

Wow, I was not born yesterday. I was saying that as a good thing.

I took the word only as a negative.

How hard did BG stump for him? When we've had players we deem worthy of consideration, we sent out information on them, in hopes that they'll get some supporters.
That said not too many 2-10 teams will get All American consideration for even their best players. And an argument could be made that Davidson was the BEST BG player this year.

I remember when Ball State punter Brad Maynard won the Vern Smith Award (MAC MVP, basically) in 1996. So this isn't crazy.

It seems to me that the best player on our team this year was either Davidson or Teo Redding. Teo was more electrifying this season. (Let's be honest: How electrifying can punting be?) Teo made some amazing highlight reel catches. But if you look at Davidson's entire career and body of work -- maybe Davidson was best.

The TV crews calling our games kept saying they thought Davidson will be playing on Sundays. I guess we will learn soon enough.

The nice thing about punters and kickers in the NFL is that there isn't really a Power 5 Bias, especially now that every play of every game is on camera. You look at the punters currently in the league and there are a lot of lower level FBS, FCS, D-2 players on rosters. I think the Titans' punter is a UT guy and he's the pro bowl favorite this year.

Sorry guys, but I don't see Davidson as deserving. Sure he gets lots of yards on his punts. However, to me he lacks height and depth to his kicks...and he also doesn't seem to be much of a directional kicker.

I certainly don't see him getting drafted, and he'll have a tough go making a team as an UDFA.

But I could be wrong...I certainly was about Richaun Holmes. ;)

He will absolutely get a camp invite somewhere.

The Lions punter Sam Martin is averaging 41 yards per kick after coming back from his injury, that's 2nd worse in the league. Maybe Joe will get an invite to the Lions.

He won't be drafted. Punters typically don't get drafted.

He will absolutely be getting UDFA offers immediately after the draft concludes. If he truly deserves it, he will get a fair shot at making a team and sticking.

I'm rooting for the guy.

I hate Martin. The guy they brought in to replace him, Jeff Locke, was doing awesome. He was averaging 1.9 more per kick and 3.6 more net. He also had 3 more punts inside the 20 than Martin, with only 1 more kick made.

I would have told Martin to take a hike...lol

Joe averaged 44.0 yards per punt, which was way down from his last two years.

The three All-Americans averaged 48.4 (Texas punter), 47.5 (Florida punter) and 44.2 (Utah punter).

Net punting doesn't show up on the NCAA web site that I could find, except for team stats. Texas was first in the country at 44.6 yards, BG was fourth at 42.2 yards, Utah was sixth at 42.2 yards and Florida was 16th at 40.9.

Do they have national kicks inside the 20?
