Disagree. His football eligibility clock started his first year at ND even though was D2. He also should have been talking to Academic Coordinator entire time. Tough situation with coaching change during his time at BG but JMo was able to stay course and get his grad transfer in order.

I still blame coaches for not being more alert.

Really sad this has happened and I too blame the coaches. These student athletes should of had advisors all over this. Inexperience coaches, advisors not doing their jobs. Totally wrong and if I was a player I might jet out of town myself. NCAA and some schools just don't care about the student.

Suder has to take responsibility first and foremost. With that said the coaches should have been on top of that from day one.

There's no surprise of any kind here. The moment you begin classes as a college athlete, your five year elibility clock starts up. Five calendar years to complete four eligible years with no more than one red shirt year. 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 were his five years. Even if you are not involved in a program, that clock is ticking. Otherwise, what is to stop someone from taking four years off between your sophomore and junior years to do nothing but weightlifting for four years?
You need a waiver for anything else. Transferring between colleges and taking a year away from the sport does not count. So I'm not surprised st all. In fact I went into this past year knowing Suder was a senior and was thrilled to see him have such a good senior year.
I love blaming coaches for not being on top of a situation around here as anyone else but this time there is no blame to pass around.

Quoting The Blade: "Suder said he does not blame anyone at Bowling Green for the mistake."
And neither do I. Ultimately, it seems like it would be Suder's responsibility to fully inform the BGSU football staff of what he had been up to before walking into the BGSU football team. It sounds like if there was some kind of miscommunication with the Dino Babers-era staff on that.
I'm sure glad someone at BGSU did some checking and finally caught this. Imagine if he had been kicking this next season and we only found out later that he wasn't even eligible? That would have been pretty ugly.

Man can the title of this post be any more click baity? Between coaching changes and his situation, he lost out on a year. Sucks, but he should have been on top of his situation.

Blame the coaches when the party who this affects says it's not the fault of the coaches - sound logic. The axe some people have to grind on here with Jinks is ridiculous.

I think your eligibility clock starts ticking when you enter a college...any college....not when you graduate HS. Had Suder not gone to Notre Dame College or Owens, his clock would have started in 2014 when he enrolled at BG.
If the University wasn't aware of his academic and football "past", it's on him. If they were...it's on the University

Anyway, it's too bad. Suder was a heck of a kicker. We've had so many years where we held our breath any time it came time to try for a field goal. It was sure nice to have Suder in there last season.

Flip,
Don't blame Suder for not trying to get another year. The university should have know from his college transcripts. This information should have been passed on to the athletic dept. The athletic dept, advisors all missed protocol, that should have been passed on to coach jinks. Yes the player has responsibility but, he is the student not the establishment making money on these players. NCAA and college football is a mega dollars investments for all colleges & univ.
