James Morgan

James Morgan is off to a good start so far at his new school FIU. He is the starter there, completing 63% of his passes, 6 TDs / 3 interceptions, currently at 183 yards per game. All of those stats, admittedly three games in, are better than his two years here. His team is currently 2-1, losing by 10 to currently undefeated Indiana.
Obviously Dino Babers saw something good in Morgan. He was the star recruit of the 2015 class. But for whatever reason, he is responding to the coaching of Butch Davis better than he did here. Good luck in the future, James.

I always liked the kid, and I wish him nothing but success at FIU.
I think the game that made me ready to move on from him last year was against Ohio on homecoming, when we missed on about 5 wide open deep balls that would have been easy touchdowns if we could have just connected on them. That felt like a game we easily could have won, if we just had better timing and he had better touch.
To compare his stats to Doege, Jarret has thrown for 654 yards (218 per game) and 8 touchdowns compared to 4 interceptions at a 64% completion rate.

James is doing well at FIU, but just got benched in his last game. Cam Jefferies is playing at Cincinnati and is doing quite well as they are undefeated. I watched most of the Ohio game and wish we could have kept him at BGSU. Both of our grads were high quality young men that graduated early from BGSU and got run out of town by Jinks.
Time to run Jinks!

Gee whiz hiway. Coach Jinks was extremely supportive of James as he evaluated his personal situation re football and James extremely supportive of the BG program right through his graduation day. Coach even let James attend spring practices as a sideline observer and encourager. Let's not confuse extremely disappointing results and failure to perform on the field as players or coaches with questions of character or "running people off".
James Morgan fully respected Coach Jinks and vice versa. Very much so.
Cameron J is a fine young man and another BG grad. Can't stop a fellow from making a decision- albeit it's a little different when a position coach changes schools and then it occurs..... But again there was zero running off or character matters in either direction.
We have a list a mile long of things we need to fix as a football program. A full mile long. But running people off or mistreating players in general as you seem to intimate is not on that list.
Go Falcons!

Ok, falconfan, I didn't know all that, so I give Jinks his credit for that. I admit I may have misspoke and take ownership, but still wish both were still here at BGSU. The new trend in college football will be the use of transfer and graduating early. I see this hurting the low mid majors. We need to find the resources to keep our players.

Automatically redshirting freshman who are working towards 4 year degrees is what causes that. Pretty sure the big colleges wanted the grad transfer rule in case they had a position they needed some depth. Go recruit you a 3 year veteran inserted of a fresh out of high school freshman.

Per Piotro...whatever at the Blade's Twitter feed, Morgan was in town to watch the game because FIU had an open week. Doesn't sound like there's any hard feelings there

That is nice, but he should not have been on the sideline if he was there. Him and Cam left the program and wish them all the best since they are BGSU grads. But this is 2018 football time. No need for distractions.

I appreciate these updates. It's interesting to consider whether a stronger coaching staff could have helped Morgan become a better player.

Numbers were better than Doege's. Shows what can happen when you have an offensive staff that can coach a guy up.
