Records and numbers tell the story

I've been quiet about our current coaching situation because i like Mike Jinks as a person and I wanted to give him some time to show us something. Well, about 2 1\2 years into this experiment he has shown us something and it STINKS. The old saying is that "figures lie and liars figure" but some metrics can't be ignored. Coaching is a tough profession but those who choose it must face some harsh realities. One of those is that a coach is ONLY as good as his record no matter how nice he is. There is also something to be said for HOW a program loses games and that's why it should be clear to anyone looking at numbers that this is NOT getting turned around no matter how many time coach Jinks says it is in press conferences.

I decided to look back at the Brandon and Clawson years.

After Brandon't good fortune to follow Urban Myer and reap 2 years of benefits from that program, he settled into the next four seasons with 6, 4,, 8, and 6 wins. I looked at points scored for and against us:

Brandon
2005- BG: 372, OPP: 304 +68
2006- BG: 234, OPP: 340 -106
2007- BG: 392, OPP: 417 -25
2008- BG: 332, OPP: 278 +54

Even in 2007 when we were outscored by 25 points he managed 8 wins for God's sake!

After Clawson's decent first year (2009) of 7-6 his cupboard got bare and before the breakout year of 2013 he managed 2, 5 and 8 wins.

Clawson
2010- BG: 255, OPP: 403 -148
2011- BG: 318, OPP: 346 -28
2012- BG: 298, OPP: 218 +80

Steady improvement and of those 7 years between the two head coaches the -148 points differential is the worst.

Jinks
2016- BG: 298, OPP: 460 -162
2017- BG: 304, OPP: 456 -152
2018- BG: 107, OPP: 239 -132 (With Toledo on the horizon!)

Points differentials of -162 -152 and already this year -132 Let that sink in for a minute!

Nothing moving in the right direction. No ability to even be competitive. No clear answers to HOW it gets turned around.

This program is in dire straights and even those of us most willing to remain positive have lost patience and lost a willingness to invest any more time and money into support. If anyone in the athletic department is listening, hear this: If you are losing me you are in trouble with the football program!

I completely agree. I was going to make a similar post this week but decided I don't even have the interest at this point to take the time. Coach Jinks seems like a good, likable guy. The kind you want to root for and see succeed. But for the first time since the late Blackney years, I have absolutely no interest in watching this team play. I'll be at homecoming as usual, but beyond that... meh.
Doege looks completely frustrated with his team and coaching at times. His body language says it all and he directs it toward the sideline mostly. During the season I normally add a couple of extra streaming services in order to catch as many of our games as possible. I cancelled them all after the Miami game. That was the last straw for me. I can't defend our staff any more. After Miami, I no longer feel there's any hope that they can get us back to competing again. I'm normally one of the last to get to that point, and here we are. Was that game our rock bottom? I can hope so but I'm afraid we aren't there yet.

This staff has failed miserably in recruiting defensive talent. Our defensive unit for the past few years has been pathetic and that falls squarely on the coaching staff. They may have had a misconception of the types of players needed to compete at this level.

Chris Kingston thought success as a HS coach in Texas would translate to success in the MAC... So, yeah...misconceptions abound
