18551 was listed attendance for HC game... so maybe the Doyt seats LOT MORE than the listed 24K. Unless LOTS of folks bought tickets and stayed OUt to tailgate, how in heck do we come w/ these numbers?

My guess: the Athletic Department got people who support the football team to buy tickets so it wouldn't look like attendance for homecoming was really bad. Yes, they will call alums and supporters of the athletic program to purchase tickets if the advance sale is poor, and they don't want a news story about how nobody is going to the games. How do I know? I've bought them before for both football and basketball when the season was bad and nobody seemed interested in going...after someone contacted me from the athletic department.
Attendance reported at these events is typically tickets sold -- not butts in the seats.

At the end of the 1st Q, I thought it looked like 8-9 thousand were seated w another couple hundred tailgating outside the stadium

And it's not consistent across all sports.

I only saw crowd shots of the east side. It looked pretty good. How was west?

This is tickets sold. Estimated no more than 10-11K actually in the stadium.

Students are required to “claim” their tickets to every event they want to go to. I’m sure every ticket claimed that way counts towards their attendance. Then you just add the rest of your sold tickets.
They also might have just made up a number. I’ve seen it first-hand before.
