Curt Cignetti: candidate profile

Post by MarkL »

If you are looking for a Clawson-like coach, Curt Cignetti deserves a look.
He spent over two decades as a major assistant, including a four year stint under Saban at Alabama.
Then off to Indiana Universty Pennsylvania, a D2 school as head coach. He inherited a losing program. He was head coach for 6 years, all winning seasons, and three times advanced to D2 playoffs.
Then off to FCS Elon last year. Again he inherited a losing program with several consecutive losing seasons. First year, 8-4 and into the playoffs. Currently 4-1 this year including a win over JMU, which propelled them to as high as #5 in the polls.
Balanced offense, favors the run. But it seems Elon is not committed to a distinctive offense the way we have recently. That shows some adaptability by the coaching staff.
Defense keeps the games low scoring. Hard telling much, can't find much on video for more insights.
This may not be a flashy hire. We do not need a flashy hire. If we want a Dave Clawson, this could be a good one to get.

And for what it is worth. I consider Clawson to have been the exact right hire at the exact right time. It could not have been better. Is that what we need again? Quite possibly.

One drawback. He is almost 60. But might that mean he would spend a long time here rather than build to springboard elsewhere?
MarkL has spoken.
You may all now return to your daily lives.
