BOWLING GREEN: SCOT LOEFFLER (3.0)
Splash quotient: 3
Geography: 3
Stylistic fit: 3
Execution: 3
Instant impact: 3

Loeffler, a first-time head coach who was Boston College’s offensive coordinator from 2016 to ’18, has hammered home his desire to hire an exceptional staff, and so far, he’s retained defensive coordinator Carl Pelini and brought back Terry Malone, who was an assistant at Bowling Green from 1986 to ’95 and will take over as offensive coordinator. That continuity will be key, because Loeffler’s résumé doesn’t exactly portend a quick turnaround for a program that hasn’t had a winning season since Dino Babers was coach in 2015. Loeffler has worked under some of the biggest names in the business, including Frank Beamer, Urban Meyer and Lloyd Carr, but his uninspiring coordinator stints at Virginia Tech and Auburn did not endear him to fans. Boston College averaged 32 points per game this year, but before AJ Dillon showed up in Chestnut Hill, Eagles fans had grown similarly tired of Loeffler’s punchless offenses.

The writer might want to look into what Loeffler inherited at Boston College. He took over the worst offense maybe in ACC history. Context needed before calling his offense punchless.

One man's opinion. Loeffler will be judged by what he does as the head coach at BG, not by what he did at his previous stops.

I am not sure there is a less splashy hire this season. It makes sense because we might be the worst job that was open.

I'm impressed with the staff he's put together, and the fact that we appear to have flipped a Toledo commit within days.

This SI piece is what I would expect from someone who does not know the MAC or our situation trying to come up with a take from three states away.

Disagree. BG is a place where you can have success if you do things right. UMass and maybe even Akron are the worst jobs available this year.

Akron
UMass
Charlotte
CMU
Texas State
Kansas
Western Kentucky

All worse jobs than ours.

That's why they all got better hires? Makes sense. Les Miles said, "you know what I am going to go to Kansas even though BG is a better job."

Calling other coaches better hires already is the worst kind of fandom. Loeffler was a good, solid pick for the school and he's put together a great staff. Akron hasn't even hired anyone yet. You're a numbers guy, Globe. Take your sulking somewhere else until there is any kind of proof to back it up.

If you have any success here, you move up quickly. We are far from the worst job that was out there.

I'll take Loeffler over Sharkboy...Loeffler is steady will a great rep. McElwain seems a bit....unstable.

Globe...out of curiosity...what would be a "splashy hire"

Walt Bell, Will Healy, Jake Spavital, Tyson Helton. What exactly make these names better hires or sexy/splash hires?

An Ex HC, A coordinator from a good offense, a coordinator with a history from a major P5 team, a current HC at a smaller university with notable success. Pretty much what everyone else got. We got the coordinator from a bad team. A 7-5 team.

Did we pay the least of all the new hires?

Tyson Helton was the OC at WKU during a great run for them. He is going back to where he had success.
Walt Bell was at Florida St.
WV was good.

BC scored 32 pts a game this year...how is that a bad offense? I'll take. D1 coordinator over a D2 or 3 HC any day of the week

That ranks 42nd in the country.
