Door Still Open For Durkin?

1. An opening at DC.
2. No DC announced for a while from a guy that had his staff ready to roll on Day 1.
3. Durkin has yet to assume a role with another program.
4. Durkin has direct connections with Loeffler through Florida.
5. Our DC position would seem like an ideal re-entry point for him.
Pure speculation, but there's enough there to suggest it could be under consideration. It would be a great fit IMO.

I feel like Brian Van Gorder is the assumed DC at this point, but it's certainly an interesting idea., though I'm not sure how well someone (Durkin) who is tainted for THAT reason can recruit anymore, especially in today's world.
I had heard rumblings that Durkin may be headed back to Michigan with Jim Harbaugh, but I'll guess we'll have to wait and see.

I think the taint, as it were, comes from a dishonest sports media rather than his colleagues in coaching or the vast majority of his ex-players.

I’ve talked to a couple people in the college coaching ranks who very much disagree with you.

I figured they would announce BVG as the DC on signing day along with an additional hire to make the staff whole from a numbers perspective. I think it's asking a LOT of a first year HC to take on the burden of adding such a controversial figure. Not interested in debating the merits of Durkin's "taint"...but it's there and Loeffler doesn't need that headache right now

The alums were sickened by what transpired over summer 2018. Then disgusted when it was announced he would return. The threat of alumni dollars drying up convinced UMD to move on. Right move.

I spent enough time with DJ Durkin 20 years ago to know what kind of human he was. I was stunned to see him actually rise up the coaching ranks, not at all stunned to see the way he crashed and burned.
If we employ DJ Durkin I will not attend a single football game while he is here (marginal threat since I only hit 1-2 a year anyhow).
I wish he wasn't lumped in as a BG alumnus, I sure as hell don't want to see him back in town.

He was nice to me. Maybe you're thinking of DJ Khalid?

Still no announcement after signing day...the plot has thickened.

I can't see any possible upside to hiring Durkin, I don't want him anywhere near the program.

Durkin and Art Briles are done forever in college. People should stop bringing them up for jobs

Loeffler actually was asked about this during the NSD presser. He said that with it still being job season and guys having doors open and close at the college and NFL level, there are still some names out there that he wants to check into and do his due diligence with.
Rather than make the easy hire, he wants to check out the whole market. I can appreciate that approach, honestly.
