Looking forward to Kansas State

Kansas State also rolled all over an FCS team, running for 360 yards and 5 TDs in a blowout. With a big difference. Where we wiped out a lower FCS team, Nicholls State won their conference last year and was 14th nationwide and began this year ranked 11th.

KSU is going to try to run it all day on us. Their coach Chris Kielman, won some national titles at NDSU and he did it using old fashioned football. So we will get a good look at our defensive front and how they fare against better competition.

Beating a team like Morgan State really doesn’t show anything....however, it’s the first time we looked competent since the end of Jinks first year when we won a few games against awful MAC East teams. If we look competitive and don’t get embarrassed then I’ll be on board with this staff. I’ve been impressed with how things have been handled thus far, still need to see it against a real team.

Beating Morgan State demonstrated the team can be prepared and remain focused. It provided something to build upon. It provided one positive step toward the rebuild. There’s nothing negative in beating Morgan State. Time to move forward for the next, or greater, challenge in the schedule. Regardless of the outcomes I expect to feel better about the program each and every week.

Agreed.!! Just don’t understand the mentality of dismissing a win against MS, then say you have to see them do it against higher level teams? EVERYONE knows it’s a rebuild. And for that matter, how many times in their History has BG knocked off a “big” school, let alone during a rebuild transition year?? Maybe 5 times in 100 years? Mind numbing how ignorant people are about football, and the pecking order of sports. Reminds me of parents asking why we don’t throw the ball, when the kids were 9 years old...... because you CANT! Shut up and enjoy the progress and wins.

Agreed. The previous staff was two plays from 0-3 against FCS, and in an alternate universe where they are still here I would have expected more of the same.

You are supposed to roll over an FCS. So what we saw Thursday felt ... normal. This whole offseason has felt normal. And that is why I like this staff so much. It feels like a one year return to normalcy so far. It is an abnormally fast return to normalcy.

As for next week, I don't expect a win, that would be unrealistic. What I would love to see is disciplined play. Against Morgan State we saw the most disciplined play I've seen in years. We saw solo tackles in the open field, where we all were conditioned to expect a whiff. We saw a push from the defensive front and with that, a high level of effort. I want to see that again and to enter halftime with something to play for rather than generating highlight reel footage for KSU.

Via the team’s twitter:

It's early in the season, but the Falcon defense set the tone in week one. Along with high national rankings, BG leads the MAC in scoring defense, total defense, passing yards allowed, pass defense efficiency, and first downs allowed.

This is 110% exactly how I feel about this team. K-State might pound us, but I think its pretty obvious this team and program have been taking steps in the right direction. I guess when you're at rock bottom there's no where else to go.
The spread is K-State -24 and I think we beat it.

I'm very stoked about the season...Kansas State will be a huge challenge but I saw a D flying around all night against Morgan State. The O rolled up 620 yrds of offense. had we struggled with them? THEN I would have been concerned. Mrs Freak and I will be running around NYC all weekend celebrating our 25th Anniversary so I will just follow on live stats. Hoping Fox Sports Ohio will carry the game so I can DVR it...just saw it listed on Fox Sports Indy and set the DVR but i honestly don't know if I get that channel. lol.. It will be a competitive game,

GO BG!!!

I am admittedly not a big fan of social media, but given BG played a lower division team, I would not have touted these stats. If after playing a couple bigger schools the Falcons have decent statistical rankings -- then yes. But not now. I'm guessing they figure this will probably be their only chance to do something like this.

It was prefaced accordingly with “its early in the season”. They should not say anything until they beat a worthy opponent, like Ohio State . Until then, SILENCE. People are nuts.

I found it listed on Fox Sports Ohio (channel 36, 309, and 1309 in the BG area) starting at noon. It also claims to be on the FS Ohio Alternate of 310 and 1310.

I’m going to game Saturday. Temp forecast at 90 degrees! Hot the days leading in too. Will be a factor in both sides.
