Need full focus and a great week of practice. I think this should be a winnable game. I certainly expect to at least be competitive.

BG opens a 5-point favorite. The Zips are pretty awful. Winnable game for sure.

I am hoping they dial in like Toledo. We do have mounting injuries which has me concerned; injuries are “no excuse”, until there is no one left..... May end up a battle of wills. This really is a must win, I think, for the good of the program.

Akron offensive stats, average per game:
- under 11 points
- 55 rush yards
- 220 pass yards
Yikes! I thought we had problems on offense.

I don't believe in "must wins" when a team is in this kind of situation. Certainly, I'm hoping they will win and it might help with the growth of the team; but what BG looks like 2 years from now will not at all resemble this group.

Akron has scored a total of 3.....THREE....points COMBINED for the ENTIRE month of October, vs MAC schools. The Zips haven't scored a single point in their last two games. Does anything more really need to be said? If BG can't beat Akron - on its home field none the less - it will go down as one of our more embarrassing loses ever. Yes, I'm well aware BG itself is also laying flat on its back in one of its worst stretches in school history as well. But we really need, no, make that - must - win this game. The Zips are on a 13-game losing steak dating back to last season and are being outscored by an average of 36-14 this year without a single game decided by 7 or less. BG probably isn't going to beat Miami, it sure as hell isn't going to beat Ohio, and very likely won't beat Buffalo. So this is, indeed, BG's last chance at a win this season.

Agree 100%. All pride and progress is lost with an L.

Akron is probably viewing this game as their last shot at a W. I would expect them to pull out all the stops. Think Temple 2006, if you didn't damage all those brain cells that day.

This will be the last game I'll be able to attend this year, so I'm hoping for a win. Crazy how quickly this college football season has gone by.

Both teams are no doubt looking at this as the last game they legitimately feel like they have a shot to win this year, although they wouldn't say it out loud. There won't exactly be an overflowing wealth of talent showcasing their firepower, but I would expect to see them both competing hard and giving each other their best shot. With the offensive problems they both have, it'll almost certainly be a close, competitive game.

I think we'll win largely on the running of Loy and Denley

I'm worried about a healthy Kato Nelson running all over BG rush defense

It's also Senior Day. Don't think will get a crowd unfortunately.
Anyone hear how Monday-Thursday practice went?

I think Nelson is suspended for Akron so one of the following three will be starting. Their stats last week against NIU:
Zach Gibson: 4 / 15, 36 yards, 0 TD, 1 interception
Robbie Kelley: 1 / 7, 4 yards, 0 TD, 1 interception
TJ Deshields: 2 / 4, 11 yards, 0 TD, 0 interception
Not that the rush game was much better. 25 rushes, 94 yards, no TDs. No runner has 200 yards on the season.
Wow has Tom Arth not done well. It is not as if Bowden sank that team. In 2017 they won* the MAC East and in 2018 beat Big Ten West champ Northwestern. Arth by no means walked into a dumpster fire.
*: the worst MAC in history was in 2017 so all divisional records come with an asterisk. The best team was Ohio who lost a game to Akron marred by bad calls and injured Bobcats. The divisional champs lost their bowl games by a combined 84 - 3 and amazingly Akron accounted for the 3 points. The champ**, UT, lost an all time classic in the bowl game 34-0 to Appalachian State.
