Who is your favorite former Falcon football player?

Post by falconfan1999 »

There have been some good players, some great personalities over the years, but usually people find a certain player or two that they really enjoy watching on the field.

Who is your favorite former Falcon player?

Mine is none other than the Alaskan Assasin- Cole Magner!

I'm on the younger side, so I don't have a ton to choose from in terms of past players.

That said, I really loved watching Matt Johnson (2011-2015) play. Dude had a natural swagger and talent throwing the football that I haven't seen from many. Plus, he was a champion twice.

My favorite current players include Caleb Bright and Andrew Clair. Caleb is a friend, and Clair is electric with the ball in his hands.

Old School but I am going to say WR Art Travis. Probably everyone goes Who, but I knew Art at BGSU in my finance classes and he was a regular guy. Second or third stringer who worked hard and finally grabbed a TD against West Texas State State in 1969. Last time I saw him was as we were leaving campus after graduation. Just wishing each other good luck. Other than that I would go with Phil Villapiano for overall football career.

Freddie Barnes. He played so hard at all times and demonstrated good leadership. When he was asked to change positions from QB to WR, his high school coach said Barnes should transfer but instead he stuck around and dedicated himself fully to the team. Fast forward to the awesome 2009 season and Freddie, a WR, was so often the difference maker. Without him, Kent and Buffalo would have been losses. Whenever the team needed a spark, it so often came via a big Freddie Barnes play.

Omar Jacobs and Freddie Barnes were the first couple of guys that came to mind, but in the end, I think I have to go with Matt Johnson. He had a great arm and was able to stay on his feet under pressure. With the receiving corps he had in 2015, that was probably the most fun I've ever had watching BG football.

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.

Going to be a lot of recency bias in here.

Offensively, Josh Harris no doubt.

Defensively, Chris Jones. Absolutely dominant.

A few come to mind instantly:

-WR Charles Sharon ... so silky when he had the ball. Not to mention my 1st BIG BG Football moment/memory.. hauling in the catch from Josh Harris to beat #16 Purdue (2003)
-QB Josh Harris ... NCAA Football video game, he was a beast, and the same in real life.
-RB Travis Greene ... SLIPPERY, ELUSIVE, EXPLOSIVE, and fun as hell to watch. Not to mention BG all-time leading rusher.

QBs get too much love already so I'll look elsewhere

I can't narrow it to one so
from many years ago..........Chip "Tater" Otten from my tiny town high school of Coldwater, Oh when I was at BG (1980-1984). I can't remember the other player's names of that time but there were some good ones. .

Recent
Diyral Briggs...great motor

I'll throw some love to the OL with 2 centers that were a little nasty but effective........Chief Kekua(sp?) and Tim McAuliffe. Lotsa pancakes.

The Greene brothers, Travis and Trenton (5-9, 215 beast at LB).

From this past year, Perce, Denley and Clair

Used to love watching Dave Preston carry the ball for the Falcons. He and Paul Miles.

Mine 2.

Didn't we have a LB/S that returned kicks too?

No one has gone with Shaun Suisham yet? Since all the other favorites have been taken (multiple times in some cases), put me down for one of those, just to shake things up a bit.
