The Problem

Post by roguewarrior »

I have been thinking hard on why we continue to struggle. I believe this is why: despite the words of Loeffler preaching “character guys”, we have not done that. When you have guys ALL IN on the field, film room, weight room....with EVERYTHING else secondary, it can turn quick; ie Urban. Warriors..... 1 star, 2 star, 3 star is so irrelevant, and BS frankly. When I see our DBS waving the Dikembe finger in a WR’s face, after the ball is OVERTHROWN to him, and we are down 30+.... I want to vomit. Selfish and stupid. We lift everyday ..... why are they so weak? Because they are LAZY. They don’t eat like they should. They don’t sleep like they should. They don’t study their craft like they should. Some hit the pipe. The coaches yell and scream at them, but they still put them out there...? There are warriors on the sidelines as they try to shoe horn in their new recruits. If a guy can’t catch or line up right on O or D, or not jump off side 5 times in one game, he is NOT ready, and won’t learn on the fly. They need to practice what they preach. Their words are right.... the actions do not seem to be. There is a large pool of football recruits out there, more concerned with offers, visits and dancing on the camera in uniform on visits, then PLAYING football. The game is over for them , once they sign. I don’t know how to sort them out of the crowd, to be honest, but the coaches that do are the winners. They deserve time for sure , but I am not sold yet.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Would the defensive coordinator showing up on camera in an Under Armour jacket on ESPN2, as you have a Nike contract for equipment align with this lack of discipline? Seems to me like that is pretty simple in a world where these contracts have existed for nearly 2 decades.

As dumb as that could sound, maybe it does? I know a coach that worked for Saban. It was his most tortured experience, but learned the most at the same time. Guys like Saban have no time for BS, from players, coaches to the secretary.

I would agree. I mean he has to know given his resume, a good chance the camera finds him in the booth during the game.

You have a son on the team and you are a coach yourself right? Bring it up with Loeffler. Especially the showboating when down 4+ possessions. That nonsense should drive any coach crazy so if it is driving player parents crazy too, that should mean something.

Caveat: I am NOT calling for their heads. I am disappointed that the excitement we felt as parents of players at what we were sold, is not taking place on the field. This came to me after a few other parents voiced the observation to me, and it is right. Like signing up for West Point; and ending up with Stripes.

I am not a professional coach, but I am in a circle of good HS and current and ex college guys. I would NEVER say a word, as a parent. Uuggh. Kiss of Death for the player. Maybe they come correct? It’s trial and error for them too. Keeping the faith!

Does VanGorder have relation playing on the team? I thought I saw someone on the roster with that last name?

I just checked his son is on the team. Of course.

The film showed between drops, wrong routes, penalties and sacks.... the QB probably made two bad reads/throws. The o line is an issue, and some guys they are keeping in, are only there because the back up is either hurt or still not up to o-line weight.....this offensive scheme is good, only with a stout o-line. I will stay cautiously optimistic, that they come correct when they can. Behind scenes may be worse than we know.... just frustrated, looking for answers.

As frustrated as I was on Tuesday, Loeffler’s media conference today helped a lot. He’s doing the dirty work to clean up a clear mess and fully explains what we already know: Jinks wrecked this place to its core. It sucks to watch them, but I think once people are up to weight and fix some of the small mistakes, we are going to see that this is the right staff for the job.

Our society is instant gratification. I equate his plan to a pro sports organization choosing to build through the draft as opposed to signing a bunch of free agents. It's going to take time yes, but it means he gets the people he and his staff want within the program.

As I've told other people, you're fine to disagree with his vision. There's other things out there to dedicate your time towards if you don't believe it's right thing for BG football. At least he's been honest and transparent about it. Expecting a football program to compete who has had basically three years of recruiting flushed down the toilet is laughable and not rooted in reality.

I look forward to when the crap is all flushed from the system. You will always have a handful of misfits, but a small minority. I do remember on our practice visit, a few weeks before Loeffler..... the practice I witnessed made me scarred.... it was like a Bad HS practice. Having just been to Toledo and OSU, it was a shocking difference. Kids walking in, some in uniform, some in there own clothes. Practice started one one end, kids playing catch and BS’ing, dancing on the other end.... I was afraid to step out of place on the sideline at the Toledo and OSU practices, and get yelled at, they were that intense! I knew someone else was coming in, so that was my hope.... ground floor opportunity. I guess they still have to live with some of the idiots... I have to remind myself patience.
