Diata Burks in portal. Transferred in as walk on. Good kid, does it right. Starts all season. Named captain. They don’t scholarship him, so he is in portal. Word is Q and Denley trying for NFL.... If Loeffler didn’t recruit you here 2020 or 2021 , your not likely to play. I bet more 2018 and 2019 will abandon ship.

Very interesting to me. I was thinking tons would return, to be honest. I see 7 or 8 offensive starters and 9 or so defensively that had the opportunity to be back.
I like Loeffler going to the young guys, but I hope it doesn't make the program's number situation even worse.

Seems like a real loss in leadership. Wish he would have gotten a scholarship offer, even though I think there is a chance he would have lost the starting job next year with the increase in depth. Best of luck to him landing somewhere. Glad that BG gave him a shot and allowed him to build his resume.
Not surprised about Q. Kiper has him rated as the fifth best TE prospect, so he is likely to get drafted in a lower round. You have to make that move if there's a chance. Denley has been here for five years, so I wouldn't blame him for moving on either. I imagine he'll end up transferring vs. going for the pros.

Morris and Denley have done some good things here but it's hard to see them catching on an NFL roster. Assuming they don't make it and would want to come back, would it be up to the school/coaching staff to allow them to come back for the extra year with the program? Would the school have the option of telling them the door is closed here, if they didn't want them back for any reason? Also, if a scholly player who would have used up his eligibility this year ends up coming back next year due to the extension from this year not counting, does the school continue to extend scholarship money to them or would they have to pay their own tuition for the extra year?

Everyone assumes these guys coming in are all studs. The problem with not keeping him was the Coaches praised the kid as one doing it right, being part of the culture.... named him a captain! How do you NOT keep him, without being a hypocrite? Another bad move as far as maintaining credibility with players.

Scholarships are all technically one year contracts, essentially. A coach can choose at anytime during a player's career to not extend a scholarship for the following career, it just very rarely happens because then it becomes a reputation that sticks with you and your staff.

Q invited to post season senior bowl type game, not sure which one. Assuming he goes, eligibility gone. Denley hoping to latch on as a KR with someone. Once sign with agent, done here. No turning back for either, if they do it. This year doesn’t count, so anyone on scholarship, stays on scholarship.

I wasn't referring to true freshman coming in, but I thought the underclassmen DBs all showed good flashes this year and with another year in the weight room, I think they could have passed up Burns. But I'm on your side in that I think they should have found a way to put him on scholarship for his last two years.

He’s a known commodity at least, not a JC wildcard. If he gets beat out, fine. You need 6-7 quality DBs to get through a season. With him here, you have a culture guy and someone that can help. These slights add up to guys NOT buying in. He Brought back one of the bong team guys too, who was suspended multiple times before. Cuts the walk on burners. Weak.

Food for thought. We know Burns is in the transfer portal. It's on twitter.
But do we know that a) he wasn't offered a scholarship and b) that's the reason he is in the portal? Obviously if a is true then most likely so is b. But is all we have hearsay to suggest he is not being offered a scholarship, not now and not in the plans? And is it an accidental administrative oversight rather than an intentional decision?
Just suggesting that we don't jump to conclusions and don't throw people under the bus unnecessarily. After all this is a matter that coaches probably cannot ethically discuss in detail publicly to refute and defend.
And of course correct me if I'm wrong. I just haven't seen anything to the contrary as of now.

Wait, so a starting corner, who became a team captain, left because he was not given an actual scholarship? LOL Must have been a JUCO or outside the 1994 style, 5 hour radius of the Michigan glory days.

It is on his twitter that he is leaving BG specifically to seek out a scholarship.

So Loeffler is cleaning house of the previous staff's recruits. No excuses then here on out. If he can't show progress and eventual wins with his guys, it's another wasted hire and more years of pain.
Hoping his strategy works but it's a massive gamble. No denying that Jinks was able to recruit some talent.

This smells like a VanGorder special. Is VanGorder's kid on scholarship?

Thanks for the correction.
