Has officially retired.

All those players who transferred out on weren’t because of anything to do with coaches? Yeah right. Idiotic hire to start with. Equally idiotic to decision to keep Pelini around initially.

It is possible that he wasn’t going to have his job for next season, so he went out on his own terms.

Long winding career. Congrats on retiring, coach!

If only Kit Hughes would retire, BG will return to glory!

If only he had sat out the process of hiring the last two football coaches, BGSU would much better off.

His retirement has to be seen as a positive at this point for the team.
I’d be interested to know what everyone thinks the chances are Loeffler can actually win the East once in the next 3 years? I feel like that is a a realistic expectation for the program at this point.
My confidence level is about 2%. I do not think he or his staff has the ability to develop talent or scheme well enough to turn this around. It is however the MAC and nothing would shock me completely.

Will Loeffler go after the retired Jim Hermann again? He coached and tweeted for BGSU for about a month before leaving for the XFL.

BVG's retirement was short. He's accepted a role as DC for a high school in Alabama. I believe he'll be closer to his family with this move.

The head coach of that high school is Mark Hudspeth, former ULL head coach. DC is formerly at Notre Dame, Auburn, Louisville, and Bowling Green.
Holy smokes. Who's the offensive coordinator? Todd Graham?

No way in hell does BG win the East once in the next three years. We’re nowhere near teams like Ohio, Buffalo, Kent State and Miami, and hell, not even Akron right now. We won’t be a factor in the East for who knows how long. We’ll be lucky to finish ahead of one or two teams in the East over the next few years let alone all of them.

Here is one of several tweets from another parent about the staff. Remember when the transfers had nothing to do with the coaching, then the defensive coordinator left to coach high school. So far Bowling Green has had Carl Pelini as DC for 2 months, Jim Hermann, for 1.5 months, and VanGorder for roughly 2 years, and retires right before Spring ball. Red flag, red flag, red flag.

I only meant we are 3 years into Loeffler’s “rebuild”...I feel like for a decent coach winning the East once would be a realistic goal. I agree with you for sure...it’s just the MAC and it can flip quick. I have no confidence Loeffler can do it, but there is a chance if the MAC east trends back to how it was when Clawson was here.
Moosbrugger needs to be held accountable for the lack of improvement of this program...incompetent. If you put all your money in only a few sports then they need to win. He runs the athletic department about as well as Greg Christopher did.
BTW...any surprise that Xavier BB is going downhill?

You are correct in your expectations that a decent coach should be able to win the east once in his first 5 years. Unfortunately we have enough evidence to know that Loeffler flat can't coach. Good coaches don't get boat raced for 2 straight seasons in this conference, regardless of talent level.
At this point the only hope I have for loeffler is that he proves to be an above average recruiter and produces an upperclassmen group of top Mac talent that can carry his below average coaching acumen. Unfortunately I've seen little evidence that it will happen, and given our insanity too retain talent it'll probably be another couple years before we even have a group of upperclassmen.

Shouldn't a basic question in the hiring of a coach be about who would you like to be coordinators? It clearly wasn't asked with Jinks as he hired high school coaches. What was the response with Loeffler? I'll keep Pelini to help get the job, then seek out coordinators who peaked in the 90's?
