Chris Kingston really f'd up in not hiring Sean Lewis after Dino left.

Re: Preseason Poll 2021
I think Lewis is going to prove to have a much more successful career than Dino in the long run (if he hasn't already). He has the offensive game plan traits that Dino had, but is much more consistent with local recruiting, defensive plans, and complete team building. If he has a first place finish at Kent this year, I'd guess it's his last year as a MAC coach.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 2:34 pm Chris Kingston really f'd up in not hiring Sean Lewis after Dino left.

Re: Preseason Poll 2021
IIRC the board consensus was to advance Lewis to head coach despite his age in order to maintain continuity. Who knows, maybe he wasn't ready in 2016 and still needed time to learn. But damn, can't imagine we would be in worse shape.
Just imagine if Kingston had the mind to offer Lewis a lower salary than Babers but still reasonable. Low risk financially. Lots of upside. Staff continuity, plus he already has experience in the region.
Woulda. Coulda. Shoulda.

Re: Preseason Poll 2021
The program needed continuity at that point. It had transitioned from Clawson's ball control, defense first mentality to Dino's system. Throwing a wrench into that is what really jammed everything up. Now you've got the third head coach (Babers, Jinks, Loeffler) since 2015, all who run different systems. It's no wonder so kids jumped ship. Can't keep anyone around when they're recruited for a specific style and the hiring choices fail to reflect that.MarkL wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 3:07 pm IIRC the board consensus was to advance Lewis to head coach despite his age in order to maintain continuity.
