I believe Kilbane is in the portal. Solid O- lineman. First of few more, I suspect, from the line. Carroll went in summer.

Not saying that what you're implying isn't true, but assuming this is about the new DBs, those guys seem to be pretty well liked by their teammates and have definitely played well, overall. Outside of those guys and Osborne (who has also proven his worth IMO), it feels like the others who have transferred in from bigger schools have been rotation players that have had to earn their time as much as any of the others.roguewarrior wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 8:42 am People Cavalierly say that the backups should quit whining and work harder. On the surface and historically, this is true. BUT, what happens NOW is this: Transfer is brought in. Loeffler promises him spot; otherwise, why transfer in? They are staying in as starters regardless of antics, practice habits or play. What happens to the good soldier backup who stayed, and is working hard, buying in, doing the process…. He is F’d!!! I don't think anyone can really comprehend the potential craziness (and not just football). NIL plus transfer portal. Wonder how the percentage of coaching changes will compare to the percentage of players who chance the portal.
I agree. IMO, our most important objective this offseason is simply keeping our guys. We have the youngest team in the nation with a TON of youth. While all these other schools will be losing all their super seniors and additional seniors, we have the ability to return almost everyone. The key part will be doing just that - returning nearly everyone. Loeffler keeps talking about how we should be on schedule next year to start our trek to the top of the MAC. However, that's totally based on returning and developing what we already have in place. We have the potential to build and develop a lot of youth for several years to come - IF - they stay. But in this day and age in college football, that's a huge wildcard. If we can return most everyone, we should be in decent shape net year, mainly because we'll be a little bit better and more experienced (even by default) and many schools will be falling back a step because of finally losing a core group of senior players (which BG essentially doesn't even have, we only have several). But if we go through yet another exodus of players in this offseason, then who knows, because you can't bank on player development from your recruits when they're playing for other schools.
No doubt, our transfers in this year have been enormous additions! Which is something we really haven't be able to say much about in previous years. BG did an exceptional job with the transfers we brought in this year and IMO, they have more than offset the ones that we lost who transferred out at their respective positions. Now, the one area our transfers out really hurt us though was our OL, because we didn't bring in a single replacement and instead we're trying to play with 4 frosh and one converted DL. Hence, the reason we are struggling mightily running the ball and proving ample pass protection. Our OL is by far our weakest unit. We didn't address it after the transfers out that we lost, and on top fo that, now we have had several guys leave this season, and there's nothing we can do about it right now. We're stuck with what we have and our hands are tied this season. And as for who gets a starting spot and who doesn't, I don't care who or where a player comes from, if they're the best guy for the spot, then they deserve it. If that's a true freshman, a seasoned sophomore, junior or senior, or a transfer in, if you're the best player to man the position, then that's who should get it. This isn't unique to BG, this is universal. If you're a player and don't want a transfer to take your spot, then beat him out. It's the same philosophy for recruits who come in behind you, if you don't want them to take your spot, then beat them out. It's why you want and need competition for a spot. And if you decide to transfer out yourself, you're still going to have to beat someone out for a spot at your next destination. This is how competition works.BillyLP wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 10:10 amNot saying that what you're implying isn't true, but assuming this is about the new DBs, those guys seem to be pretty well liked by their teammates and have definitely played well, overall. It's a bummer about Kilbane, especially because he was getting playing time as an underclassman, which is already pretty unusual for an o-lineman. The only reason I could see him leaving is he just plain didn't like it here. The portal is just how it works now. Not really any way around it and I'm personally pretty glad that Loeffler and his staff have adjusted after a couple of seasons of hardheadedness.
It appears he is gone, he's now no longer listed on the roster.Class of 61 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 8:29 pm Sad thing if we lose Kilbane is he has a super stud brother at Eds , currently a Jr.
Would’ve been nice to see both at BG, now likely unlikely to have even outside chance to happen. He’s currently playing behind son of former DC . My son in law is an Eds grad who came to Akron game and filled me in on this.![]()
I really don't understand why a guy who isn't going to start at a power 5 wouldn't transfer for a chance to start.
NIL. Look up some of the deals backups are getting, just for being on the team. Starters here will never get close to that.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 11:38 pmI really don't understand why a guy who isn't going to start at a power 5 wouldn't transfer for a chance to start.
Is there a list somewhere? I don't doubt it. What I really meant was if you're not getting playing time at all. But my phrasing was bad.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 9:43 amNIL.
