Bring on the Emus
Eastern Michigan is next. The EMUs are favored by a few points, but this Bowling Green team has been playing opponents closer than Vegas expects nearly all season. If we are going to get another win this season, this is a good opportunity to do it. This team is playing with heart and I think they have it in them.

Hoping you’re right. We’re heading back Sat. To tailgate, then on to game. I’m trying to “ keep the faith “ and see a win.

Won't be able to make this one. Seems like two evenly matched teams on paper. Haven't been able to watch much of the Eagles this year, but they seem capable of moving the ball while their defense appears to be rather mediocre.

Re: Bring on the Emus
People are saying this Saturday might be BG football’s last chance at a win.
That may be true, but consider who we have the rest of the schedule and we should realistically have a chance in basically every game:
vs. 4-3 Eastern Michigan
@ 3-4 Buffalo
vs. 3-4 Toledo
@ 3-4 Miami
vs. 1-6 Ohio

I agree. We could win all of these games or none of them, as Scot Loeffler has said.
Re: Bring on the Emus
And that's been the case so far in every conference game, too. We hung with East-leading Kent State on the road before losing by 7 very late in the ballgame. We blew a large lead against Akron and probably should have won that game. We came back and lost by one score against West-leading NIU on the road. We've lost every game, but had a chance to win all of them. And that will probably continue to be the case - as you pointed out, Scot Loeffler said this.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:20 amI agree. It's all about learning how to limit mistakes and win ballgames now.

Our QB is 35 years old....he should not be making the same mistakes week after week. Did Scot Loeffler mention that?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Bring on the Emus
He's played 14 games at the college level (12 here). I think as frustrating as it is to watch him, we have to understand that acting like he's some veteran with tons of experience is a bit crazy.
His improvement between year 1 and year 2 was a massive jump, and that can't be overstated. Completions jumped from 43% to 61%. He's throwing for 100 more yards per game. His touchdowns have jumped from 1 all year last year to 6 so far this season, with another 5 games to go. His passer rating has climbed by over 30 points, too.
Is he perfect? Hell no. We just have to hope he can become more consistent over time, or that another option on the roster makes it impossible to keep him off the field.

Re: Bring on the Emus
The quarterback play did not come up in Monday's press conference that I saw. I'm mildly surprised by that given the way things went Saturday.
It seems to me McDonald is making good decisions most of the time. On Saturday, at times (and particularly on deep throws and out patterns), his balls seemed off the mark. It could be his receivers weren't running good routes, or that defensive players are disrupting his timing. Or it could be McDonald is just off mark on these kinds of throws.
Can coaching fix that? Do we have someone on the bench who can make these throws and also do all the other things McDonald is doing right? I don't know. Those are interesting questions.

Re: Bring on the Emus
His motion is weird...balls get knocked down at the line multiple times a game because the defense knows it's coming out low. He can't throw an out route to save his life. He either sails it into the sidelines or grounds it five yards in front of the receiver. I don't know how you fix those thingsmbenecke wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:18 amHe's played 14 games at the college level (12 here). Re: Bring on the Emus
I believe A big issue is this, and it is Loefflers main Flaw: there are “competitions” for spots on offense, that are really not competitions. example: didn’t matter what any QB did, McDonald is the starter. At some point, that grim reality strikes a 19-20 year old, and the edge is taken off their preparation. when you see consistent bad throws, or poor blocking, or missed assignments, or dropped passes or fumbles, or missing class/practice/bong teaming…. We are Losing AND you deserve a shot AND You don’t get your shot ( the definition of insanity- doing the same applies here). Many frustrated guys. Someone remarked Loeffler is stubborn and fixed. This applies to real position competition. When camp breaks in August, that is it for the season. Period. It’s also why he blows on game day-no adjustments. Why not Make a series of situational plays for a QB that matches his best skill set, and see what happens? How hard is that to give a QB a short shot and experience? And it’s probably better situationally than a stupid trick play…..We are not on a MAC title run…. Other than D-Line, there is no rotation. That’s why I foresee an exodus, especially when they bring in transfers who will be promised and inked into spots to come here.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Re: Bring on the Emus
Before I get the Tony Robbins seminar replies of try harder, it’s competition, etc I’ll relay this story:
I was in our BG coach recruiters office on our post commit visit. Previous regime. Sitting in his office overlooking the field, BS’ing after a long day of tours. I forget the context of the conversation, but it was about playing time (unrelated to my son). He said very nonchalantly as he was looking at his PC….. “ well, you never know what the coach’s promised the starter….. or, if he’s getting paid”.
I will never forget it, because “getting paid” was crazy to me, particularly where I was sitting. College football is a dirty place.
