All-MAC teams

Post by BillyLP »

First Team:

Christian Sims, TE
Nate Needham, K
Darren Anders, LB

Second Team:

Jordan Anderson, DB

Third Team:

Karl Brooks, DL
Devin Taylor, DB
Matt Naranjo, P

Big omission to me is Davon Ferguson. Maybe Brock Horne and Tyrone Broden, but Broden really didn't get any touches the last few weeks of the season.

I had the same reaction.

Nice to see Sims make first team. He's only going to get better.

I’ll make a purely speculative guess on Ferguson: if the coaches are the ones voting, they probably heard enough of his mouth in their sidelines to say screw him.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

Selection is by the coaches. That's a great point.

Yeah, I would think that’d impact Taylor, too. And I’ve seen some downright dirty players make the list before. If anything I think it’s missing the last four games but I thought he played well enough to still get a selection.

Well your guess isn’t worth a damn here. Ferguson missed half of the MAC season, having played in just 4 MAC contests. He wasn’t likely to land on an all-conference team because of it (although one could certainly make the case for him to). I spoke to two MAC East coaches on Monday and one MAC West coach yesterday. They all were in consensus that he’d have been a 1st Team pick had he continued to play the way he did through 4 games all the way through 8. One of those coaches added that if BG moves him to his natural safety position (which was SL’s plan to do next season), that he’d be a MAC Defensive Player of the Year candidate next year. I don’t disagree.
GO BG!!!

I’m personally shocked Sims got first team. It seemed that he spent a lot of the later games just dropping passes.

I think the only thing the voters saw was his highlight TD where he trucked a dude and went 80 yards to the house to start the Buffalo game.

Hell, I’d make him an All-American for that. Lol

I'm sure it didn't hurt him that most teams don't feature tight ends as primary weapons in the types of offenses they run these days. The competition for all league honors at that position has been thinned out from what it once was.

In this offense, Bowling Green should have the best tight end every season.
