Madness

Learned from a State player (significant, regular player) that he has never spoken to Tucker one on one! Further, they just cut players…. A kid that got time, hard worker, good student came to practice a few weeks ago and his locker was cleared out…. “We’d like you to enter the portal”…. Also saw New Florida coach didn’t bother to tell any of their COMMITS that they were not signing them.
So much for bleeding your school colors and running thru a wall for your coach, gutting out the process.

Wow...I would think that meeting with everyone one on one for even 20 minutes would be a standard practice for a head coach. At least now they don't have to go through the pretext of "running a kid off" over a few weeks. You just dump them.

And that 20 year old gets punched in the mouth, embarrassed in front of his friends and gets to call his parents and tell them he got cut, from College.
The majority of these coaches are borderline morons. 6 year Degree in general studies and regurgitate themselves in a new job every few years. Difference now is they make big money. It’s so broken.

Given the title of this thread and it relates to Michigan State, can't help but think...
Madness? This is Sparta!

Thank you. I honestly didn't know which "State" rogue was referring to at first.

I knew it was MSU based on the name Tucker and the reference to the transfer portal. He's been one of the chief beneficiaries of the portal.
I believe that the failure to bring in a back up QB capable of pushing old man McDonald is near criminal coaching negligence.
Convince me I'm wrong

Likely this is a more appropriate topic in the Other Schools section which is way, way down at the bottom of the list.

There is time; but, I agree it is ridiculous and could very well tank our moon shot season should they fail to bring in a QB. The portal is made to get a QB.

I agree. I thought this was about BG and was really confused with the names.

I'm in agreement, but there's still time to have someone come in. There are already over 1,000 FBS scholarship players (over 1,400 FBS guys in total thus far) in the portal already (a lot of guys at all different positions) and that number is only going to continue to swell. They estimate there will be a 1,000 more come the deadline in the spring, estimating 2,500 inn all. It's mind boggling, and a most of these guys are going to come out on the other side without an FBS offer or landing spot. I would like to think we have a short list ready to offer, but we also should be open to the fluidity with guys continuing to pour in. All that said, the target time need to be before spring to get someone in here ready to learn and compete.

More madness… Texas A&M reportedly averaging about 1 Million per recruit…. Im guessing some deserving, hard working red shirt junior type will be losing all his PT to a new recruit getting paid a few million…..
“Aggie boosters spent between $25 and $30 million to sure-up the nation’s top class. He reported that the effort was targeted and coordinated.”
It’s pro ball now. Sing the Alama mater after the game and a hit a keg party? Ha!

It's always been happening with pushing guys out every year and now boosters give money under NIL instead of under the table
I also have no issue with this being on this part of the forum since it's more active

Charlie Batch tweeted his company would be willing to give Caleb Williams one million dollars if he committed to EMU.
I don't think many of us envisioned the craziness that would follow once NIL became reality. We all assumed it would pertain strictly to university-related items like jersey sales, or being signed to endorsement deals, or that kids could start their own businesses, etc. Now it's a free-for-all where the schools with the deepest pocket boosters can come out of the shadows and flaunt stacks of cash at these kids. I'd say it's worse than pro ball at this point. NFL players are typically paid a fair market value for their services. You have people throwing cash at kids just out of high school with absolutely no idea how they're going to pan out in college.

That's my biggest beef. Kids. These kids are too young to generally be responsible with that kind of money.
NIL <-> player contracts
Transfer portal <-> unrestricted free agency
CFB is just minor league football now. Better to just admit that. Just go ahead and spin the football teams off into separate entities that are allowed to use the university logo with the tradeoff that students can get free or discounted game tickets and drop the whole student athlete label.

I think you'll find many who cautioned about this very thing happening.
