New OC

So, will anyone really want to hitch their wagon to Loeffler’s offense, and not be calling the plays? Will he give up play calling? (I think he should. He stares at that play board like a mental patient, and misses everything going on in the game) . Where would you find another fan of this system?? My guess is they bring in a position coach to shuffle in and give some BS title, not quite OC. My hope would be a legit OC with an offense of his own, and Loeffler manages team.. thoughts?

Agree with everything you just said.

I think Loeffler will ride it out to the end with his offense and his QB...I don't think there's a hope in hell of him bringing in an OC who will change anything.

I wouldn't be shocked if he gives the OC job to a current coach and has them split duties.

These are good questions. I wonder if play calling was one of the reasons Malone decided maybe a lesser role at Louisiana State was a better fit at this point in this career. On the one hand, Malone was responsible for the offense. On the other, he wasn't permitted to call the plays.

It seems to me the offense Loeffler wants to run should not be a barrier to finding a good offensive coordinator. With a strong offensive line, a number of different types of offense are probably viable here or anywhere else. There is also probably no shortage of people willing to coach any offense Loeffler might choose to run for six figures.

That’s what I was thinking.

Stud is the PERFECT answer to BOTH the O line and Ic problems!

Addazio's son would make sense given the return the favor culture this program has shown.

Stud would be a program changing hire. He could help get the offense to a competent level. Unfortunately I would be shocked to see Loeffler make a hire that would possibly challenge him to make any adjustments or pass off play calling responsibility (which as the head coach is his right).
I think you’ll see him promote internally or hire someone he’s closely connected to.

It's the obvious name, but Loeffler may not be able to afford him. I think it would be cool.

Loeffler said he wasn't going to use BG and that he was going to set it up to have long-term success. If that's really the case, Stud is the hire to make.

Set him up as the OL coach and OC and let him fix the offense. If it really works out, Loeffler leaves for a bigger job in 2-3 years and the perfect guy for the job at that point is already here in the building to promote from within. Stud is from Fostoria, played here from 84-87, interviewed for the HC job in 2018, and coached here previously from 01-06. He feels like the perfect guy to be here in this moment. If he's game, he needs to be brought in by any means necessary.

Word is they will hire a RB coach (which was Malone’s duty along with calling practice scripts). Whether that person has the chops to be a future HC type (Stud) remains to be seen. I doubt Loeffler (or a lot of coaches) are anxious to hire their replacement. Makes getting whacked a little easier …..

Well at any school not named BGSU, saying we "easily could have won 9 games", while only winning 4, would get you "whacked". But this is BGSU and BGSU has Bob Moosbrugger.

New RB coach...that means search former Michigan running backs of the mid to late 1990's, in need of work.

That's a fair point about not hiring your replacement. But on the flip side of that, doesn't hiring good coaches also make your job easier and allow you to have more success? Guys have too much pride, man. If I am putting together a coaching staff, I want the best guys I can possibly get - I'm not worried about being replaced by one of them.

I agree, I too would try to hire the best. If you’re ego doesn’t allow you to let someone else to make the decisions (create/call) both sides of the ball, then you may be looking over your shoulder too…. The RB coach here runs the kids through practice dummy drills (aside from recruiting duties). I would not expect bringing in a Stud. (Ha) .
