Wow. Ranked below Akron again, and the 4th worst in college football….. ugh
“If one person tells you you’re drunk, ignore them. If 10 people tell you you’re drunk, go and have a lie down” .
Maybe some of us are too close to see how bad we may be…???

Either that, or no national writer is paying attention to what they’re trying to do here, so they wouldn’t be able to anticipate us being decent again.
I guess that’s why we play the games, right?

National rankings may well be a lagging indicator of where we actually are for this reason.
We will know soon enough.

Phil Steele is the one ranking I’d pay attention to. I don’t know when that comes out, but that is one publication that puts a significant amount into their research and projections for all the conferences, not just the P5.
I’m expecting 3-4 wins. Where that puts us I don’t know, but I don’t expect it to be real high.

Really only care a little bit about what Phil Steele says. The rest of these "preseason" rankings are solely for entertainment purposes, plus I highly doubt a national writer is going to really dedicate time to researching all the G5 programs.

The preseason rankings from whomever are of course meaningless, and most certainly have no research to back it. It is interesting though how we remain basement dwellers in the eyes of most. SL does not seem to garner any street cred.

Before you go there, we could have hired Urban Meyer back over the offseason and they would have only bumped us up ahead of Akron.

Indeed, in 2001 Sports Illustrated projected Bowling Green 104th best in the country (out of 117) and just 10th best in the MAC (out of 13 teams).

As most of us know, Meyer's finished 8-3, opening with a win at Missouri and closing with wins over Northwestern and Toledo.
I'm not saying Bowling Green is going to open up with a win at UCLA or finish with eight wins. But this prediction seems too pessimistic.

Funny coincidence, I was just thinking the opposite. We would have been top 75 my guess had Urban taken over …

I don't think Loeffler and Co have earned any cred. Heading into year four, the talent level on the roster doesn't appear to be what it was under Clawson or Babers...or maybe even Jinks in some spots

And yet another preseason prediction had BG at 2nd in the east. These things are crapshoots. Phil Steele and Bill Connelly are the two I look forward to each year though Connelly has gone a bit downhill since joining espn.

Yeah, I feel like with the MAC, the first place guesses are usually pretty educated, and then the rest is a gamble. At this point, if I were a sportswriter I would definitely put BG at the bottom every year until they prove otherwise, regardless of recruits/transfers/coaches/etc. Gotta see some kind of ROI on the field before giving any credit.

For all of you wondering where Phil Steele is picking BG, he picked BG 5th in the East, only ahead of Akron.
MAC EAST
1. Miami
2. Kent State
t-3. Buffalo
t-3. Ohio
5. Bowling Green
6. Akron
MAC WEST
1. Toledo
2. Northern Illinois
3. Central Michigan
4. Western Michigan
5. Eastern Michigan
6. Ball State

Finishing 5th in the East would be grounds for most of the staff to be terminated. 93 days away from kickoff.
