What would the expectations be for this season if we had (have) solid qb play. Say Tyler Sheehan level.
Our defense has a lot of good pieces, our Oline is at least a lot deeper with options, and we have a good running back group. Still a bit iffy with the receivers but hopefully the two transfers help. I think in this scenario we can easily be competing for a division title with how weak the east is. Perhaps 8-4 (6-2) since there are still some holes and questions for how far Loeffler can take this team plus a lack of a winning culture. Could still be a 6/7 win team but our ceiling would be a division title
Solid QB
Re: Solid QB
My worry isn't QB, it is OL and WR. As for how I view our QB, I think of McDonald as a guy who won't elevate low talent around him, as we saw in 2020, and when given moderate talent will not throw games away as seen in 2021. I guess I don't see him as a Matt Johnson type of QB who makes everyone around him play better but is more like a Matt Schilz who is an effective QB and will make the team play at about its status quo. So given status quo, my primary concern on offense is if the brand new offensive line comes together by season start to enable a proper running offense and allow McDonald time to hit one of the new receivers.
So I guess the answer to the question, what could you expect with solid QB play? I just can't say because there's too many questions on the offensive line. I sure hope the answer is a good one because it would be a shame to waste what looks to be a great defense.

That's a pretty good take.
The Miami game will be interesting. They blew us out last year, but with a new, stronger offensive line, it wouldn't surprise me if it is an entirely new ballgame this year. It seems to me line play can make that big a difference.

Re: Solid QB
I'm worried about our QB...he's never had a season here without some major injury. He has the same mechanical flaws that he had on day one. He's in his what...8th season? of college football and no one has him anywhere in the preseason all conference teams. #NoRespect
The OL is going to be brand new (don't get me started on the history of that shitstorm) ...we assume that they're going to be better, but these are guys who for the most part didn't play at their old school, so they don't have an edge in game experience. We're also counting on the coach who's lead an underperforming unit to suddenly pull a new group together with fall practice being the sole opportunity to do that. WR's? Do we have those? I thought we just had RB's and TE's... working out of an offense that has NEVER really worked under Scott Loeffler at BGSU, Boston College or anywhere else....

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
