vs. Buffalo

Bulls looked to be the laughing stock of the conference after losing to Holy Cross, but they have righted the ship by picking up a road win at EMU and beating preseason East favorite Miami-Ohio at home.

Transfer Cole Snyder from Rutgers who BG was in on this summer leads their offense and senior Quian Williams is his favorite target. Like BG they're a bit by committee when it comes to running the ball.

Defensively they've been decent against the pass allowing 225 YPG, close to 200 YPG against the rush.

This was a game I had circled that BG needed to pick off if they want to win the East, even more so with the Bulls being 2-0 in MAC play.

Line was opened as a straight pick 'em with BG emerging today as a slight favorite. My analytics have Buffalo as a four point favorite.

Needless to say this is the biggest game of the season so far.

Holy Cross is 5-0...4-0 on the road...and somewhere in the FCS top 10. People point to that as a bad loss for Buffalo, but Holy Cross might be good enough to win the MAC

The separation between G5 and FCS certainly isn't what it once was. No question there are programs at the top of the FCS heap that are just as good as many lower echelon G5 teams. I've never liked playing those games and now with the playing field closer to level in this current environment, I wish we would just schedule other G5 opponents instead of FCS.

Absolutely. Give me more Marshall, Memphis, and Western Kentucky, and less FCS schools. In this era where no games are guaranteed wins anymore, give us the fun and interesting matchups every time.

We can get the FCS to play here for less $$$$....So I think we'll keep scheduling them

Plus, the game is always at our place. A game against Marshall, or Western Kentucky or whoever is going to be a home-and-home. These FCS opponents help balance our schedule by giving us extra nonconference home games.

Athletic department can focus on scheduling lower end FCS programs. Toledo played Long Island, CMU played Bucknell, Miami hosted Robert Morris. None of those programs are going to sneak up and bite you. Why aren't we scheduling UMass? They're independent and need people to play, few MAC programs had them on their schedule this year.

Opportunities are there but it seems the department refuses to be smart about it.

Not being smart is the recurring theme of BGSU athletics...

Bowling Green will play at Massachusetts in 2025. The return game will be the following year.

The money seems to be moving in Buffalo's direction. The Bulls stand as like a 1.5 point favorite now, if I'm not mistaken.

Not surprised. I've seen most public models with Buffalo a slight favorite. SP+ was basically a statistical tie. Buffalo has been a touch more consistent on both sides of the ball so it makes sense.

Well their logo looks a little meaner than ours, so that probably counts for something.

Hey now, Scot said that helmet emblems don’t matter! Don’t upset the apple cart!

Probably a long shot (how could they only muster up 500?!?) but if anyone can possibly get their hands on an extra Josh Harris bobblehead please PM me! $40 and I'll cover shipping.

I had penciled this game in as likely win for us given the way the Falcons rolled in Buffalo last year. But the way Buffalo hung 50 on Eastern Michigan and managed to beat Miami makes me nervous.

I suppose every game in the MAC East is pretty close to a coin flip, but we really need to win this one.
