“It was my decision to go for it on fourth down as many times as we did. The plan was to keep them off the field,” coach Scot Loeffler said after the loss. “It starts with me. It's the first time since I've been here that I can say I was outcoached.”
No Lefty, this was not the first time you have been out-coached. In fact, it happens pretty regularly. And by the way, it not only happens on the field, it happens all year long with the systems and schemes you implement. The offense is TERRIBLE. YOUR QB is terrible. He has below average arm strength and terrible mechanics. And you recently said he could come back for another year.
The 3 game win streak was a reflection of terrible opponents, not BGSU being on the rise. 5-7 is guaranteed.

Well said and a very valid. That fact that he stated "It's the first time since I've been here that I can say I was outcoached" verifies this guy simply doesn't comprehend the reality of the situation. Really??? This is the "first" time you've been outcoached while at BG??? And I 100% completely agree with your comment about it not only happening on gameday too. It 100% also applied to his ineffective offensive scheme that he continues to try and run here. I was skeptically when he talked about running it back when he started and I now know for a fact it just won't work. It can't match up with what the top teams in the MA are running. I don't care how well our defense or special teams are or become, until we change our offensive scheme, it's not going to matter. A number of our MAC peers have offensives we simply cannot hang with because one, our defense can't slow them for more than a quarter or two (that's a compliment to how effective they are, not a dig at our defense), and two, our offense simply stands no chance at trying to match points with them. It doesn't work and won't work and we'll never see the light of day in Detroit trying to run it.

Got to hand it to him...he deserves another crack at the pinata next year (unless there's something really bad going behind the scenes that I don't know about...not that I think there is....but you have to cover the bases

Agreed. The UB and Kent games were horrible and head scratchers but beating Miami and tsun in the same season. A chance to finish 7-5 and no worse than 5-3 MAC. Scot earned it last night.

I agree, he out-coached Candle but that wasn't' the point of the original post. Lefty has proven he can get the team up for UT but we play 12 games a year. You can't forget the colossal defeats (EKU), or the times when the team simply doesn't show up (Buffalo and Kent). The result for being out-coached or not being prepared is exactly the same.
I stand by my comments. The offensive scheme is terrible and we have a few players with really limited skills. Yes, McDonald had a great game statistically but he also made a lot of bad throws. The sack to start the final drive was a head smacker. A senior QB just cannot make that mistake. McDonald is who he is. I'm more concerned that we have NOBODY behind him and we may have McDonald for another year. Lefty certainly doesn't seem to have any intent to allow Orth to throw the pigskin.
Finally, let's not forget that we played against UT's #2 QB who had a broken hand for half the game. Further, for some reason, their DB's played horribly and the whole defense forgot how to tackle. They don't call in MACtion because of strong defenses. It's called MACtion because you never know what is going to happen and is often a brutal, completely disorganized $#!t show.
Ay Ziggy Zoomba, Roll Along and hope we whip the Bobcats next week. Somehow, some way, we are still in this.

I think we have some weapons on offense...Hillaire, Broden, Fannin...those guys and most of the RB's could have played on any of the BG teams I've watched

Don't beat yourself up coach. Yes, you were outcoached again, despite not thinking you were. You just never stood a chance.

Well, we are half the time.
As D1 athletes, I expect players to be motivated to win on their own. That just isn't what we see in this team. Our highs are very high and our lows are, well, last night, and many other games this season. When the game plan, or lack thereof, fails, and our coaches cannot adjust, this team seems resigned to its inevitable fate, like a man headed for the guillotine.
This is where coaching comes in to develop leaders and set exceptionally high standards or performance. I remember when Urban came to Columbus, overnight the team was different in that they were RELENTLESS no matter the situation. Day has maintained that relentless through the years. I don't know if it is the players, the system, the coaches or all three, but what BGSU is doing just isn't working. I heard Gibby say last night that we were tired. We may be tired but we are no different than any other team. You can't use that as an excuse for not being prepared, been motivated and executing.
If the team isn't motivated to play for a league championship, I can only anticipate another poor performance in whatever bowl they are sent.

This quote is accurate. The Falcons' championship hopes were alive until the final game of the season. That's the very definition of competitiveness.

Sort of...we didn't control our destiny at the end of the season because we got trucked at home by Buffalo and Kent. We got abused by OU in a must win... So how competitive were we?

We lost 5 games (3 division games) by 24+ points I don't know how competitive that is but I wouldn't say it's "as heck".
But my quick math in my head we were outscored in MAC games by 55 points. Most math models would tell you that makes it a major outlier that you were 5-3 in those games. 3-5 or 2-6 is probably your "expected record". That means by most models if you ran it all back next year and nothing changes you'd expect a worse record. I know I sure would just my "gut feel" watching the team.
If the choice comes down to extension or firing I'd be rooting for firing. At this point I have no problem letting him back for his final year but I expect a pretty big step back next year. We lose our only experienced QB and regression to the mean will hit hard.
