If you're a national recruit and NIL $$$ looks to be important to you...OSU may be backing out early on in the recruiting process.

Good. I support athletes being able to make money, but I think essentially giving contracts before they attend should be banned. Get the kids on campus and then allow them to earn their endorsements. I know it would be difficult to police, and there will still be some dirty deals (like there always have been), but a few will get caught and punished and that should help even things out a bit.

Why? With the sheer amount of money in "big time college football" there is absolutely nothing the MAC and other lowly conferences can do to keep an even playing field. But this NIL stuff has a legit shot at helping even the playing field amongst the power houses to at least make the sport palatable to watch again.

The sport devolved to the point that a couple of schools had the best coaches and best facilities and by doing so had the best track record of putting the most kids into the NFL. That has manifested itself to having like 6-10 programs competing for the final 4 spots every year and watching Clemon, 'bama, OSU, Oklahoma, etc be in the playoffs every single year. Well we all know there are plenty of programs out there with money...Oregon, Michigan, A&M, etc can compete financially with OSU/Clemson so maybe bringing in NIL deals to recruits can allow that money to create more even talent bases across these teams.

I dunno, college football sucks these days. I don't know what fixes it. But If you're going to let the kids make money off their likenesses (and we should) I see absolutely no reason to say that their ability to maximize that earning potential shouldn't be part of the recruiting process. In fact, given the unknown nature of development/injury if I had a D1 caliber athlete as a son I would tell him it should be far and away the #1 thing to consider in the recruiting process. You can make All America, NFL draft, and get a degree in your course of study from pretty much every single D1 school. Maximize your current earning potential now and worry about the rest later, that would absolutely be my advice.

Oh, and this article just sounds like pure sour grapes. OSU has basked in the dynasty built by Urban where they've been able to turn perennial success into more perennial success. They know they don't have any more financial resources than some of these other P5 schools that have put less talented teams on the field. Now they're pissy that they can't say, "Come to OSU and you'll be in the playoff every year!" and have to worry about the fact that A&M Or USC might hit them with a multi-million $$ contract.
