Another BG preview from a random "expert".

If you can get past the part about the "narrow defeat" to Northwestern in the MCB, the special teams preview will be sure to knock you on your tailfeathers.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Since taking over the special team job at Bowling Green three years ago, Urban Meyer has turned the Falcons into one of the best special team units in the MAC. However, last season, Meyer’s squad suffered greatly, especially when it came to returns. Sharon averaged just 8.8 yards returning punts last season, while Magner averaged just 19.8 yards per kick return. Despite the struggles in the return game Magner and Sharon will both be back at their respected spots. Shaun Suisham has nailed 28-of-38 field goal attempts in his past two seasons, which includes last season’s 16-for-24 showing.

Wow, now there's checking your facts. Credibilitly down the tubes. Somebody, quick, send this guy a media guide

CBS Sportsline puts BG at #58, which isn't too disrespectful, but UT at #17? and Northern all the way down at #80??

At least they don't say that we LOST our bowl game last year.

As a journalist, I'm embarrassed not only by the sloppy reporting - such as it is, but also the horrific writing style.

As a BG alum, I'm disgusted by the Meyer miscue and the writer's evident lack of knowledge.

As a customer of The Sports Network, I'm firing off a note to our rep.

Geesh.

Note sent. I'll be sure to let everyone know their reply.

Wow that was ridiculous. The Sports Network is awful,, let me give you a personal example. This season they took over all of the score reporting for minor league baseball. Well I am working for the Toledo Mud Hens PR dept. and we have to report scores and send in box scores and what not and they are routinely messing a lot of stuff up. TSN around Fifth Third Field generally follows an expletive. . .

Geesh.
This is why the only preseason publication or service I respect is Phil Steele's.
All this other "writing" is so biased and uninformed.

TG,
I guess I don't let these "experts" get to me anymore. BG does their talking on the field and I'm very confident will get the job done in '04.

When the Falcons repeat as West Champs, it will be sweet satisfaction.

GO BG!~ 218 hours, 43 min til kickoff....

The Sports Network has made recent edit of the BG posting on their site. All Urban Meyer references and "the narrow defeat to Northwestern" have been removed from the article. The preview is now at least half way respectable and readable. Thank's to everyone who contacted the Sports Network in order to keep them accurate in their reporting and by not allowing them to put out the garbage previously reported.

Yup, it's fixed

This is an excerpt from the response to my e-mail ...

I just wanted to let you know
that at The Sports Network we take this very seriously and will not stand for
it.

In accordance with that, we have fixed the errors and retransmitted the work and
are taking serious disciplinary actions against the employee.

I don't really think anyone finds that upsetting (well maybe the guy if he got fired). I just don't really like bad reporting in general, but at the professional level I don't want to see any mistakes. If he got fired by chance, so be it!

They probably didn't fire him. . . just reassigned him to Minor League Baseball so now I have to deal with him!!! haha

My guess is all the rejects at TSN go to Minor League Baseball, because those people are awful to deal with . . .

I spoke with one of the higher ups there after my e-mail. The person in question will NOT be fired.

I'll leave it at that.

Well hopefully they'll teach him how to properly research before writing an article. A major network like that with a nationwide readership (worldwide even?) has no excuse for putting misinformation up like that. I don't believe its really the job of the editors to go back and check his research, but you would think that there'd be some research backup check.

There are plenty of people out there who would love to get paid to research sports teams. There is really no excuse to keep someone in employment who doesn't see the importance of good research. I'm sure that they just figured nobody would be reading about lowly Bowling Green...
