vs. Lafayette (8/28)

College football has returned to BGSU - complete with Eddie George's fist game as the leader of the Falcon football program. A lot of unknowns heading into the season, 49 new players, coaching change in the spring. 6pm kick available streaming on ESPN+/Unlimited. Weather is looking iffy with a 70% chance of rain.

Notes from the press conference:

No notable injuries to speak of.

Depth chart is out. Pyne is starting at QB, no surprise. RB by committee to begin the year. Eddie has challenged that group to have one or two guys separate themselves from the pack. Harris and Johnson listed as starters at TE. OL returning four starters from last year, plus Andrew Kilfoyl who transferred in from USF. Biggest concern is the D-line as Eddie noted there has been some inconsistentcy during the summer out of that group.

Captains are Pyne, Lampron, McClendon, and Pabst.

Falcons are -13.5 on a couple books.

I'm actually excited to for the offense. With that kind of return on the O-line and some decent talent in other areas, they might do alright.

Defense is a big concern for me. There is some good talent at the ends and at safety, but I'm worried about everything in between.

Rain’s gonna suck, but I’ve got my tickets. Excited to kick off the Eddie Era with a win on Thursday night.

Can't wait to log off from work at noon and get up to the palace on the prairie Thursday. Lafayette has a good deal of talent back from last year so I think they can give us a run. Our OL should be the strength of the team, which is so important.

GO FALCONS

Forecast is looking better. Rain in the morning/early afternoon but clearing out around 1-2pm, just in time for tailgating. Hoping for a decent crowd. These openers on weeknights can be hit or miss.

No TV for me even with ESPN+ (Hulu/Disney package). You need ESPN unlimited. No sports bars near me have it. Frickers in Sylvania closest place but it’s an hour away, another 1/2 hour to BG. Guess I’ll follow it on computer gamewatch. Go Falcons!

If you have the ESPN Select package (basically the old Plus) you'll be able to stream the game. It's not on Unlimited.

My Disney/Hulu/Espn+ package doesn’t specify “ESPN Select”. Package channel lineup for game says not available and not available for upgrade.

What you have is the Select package. The game should be available for you. I'd reach out to their support team if it's unavailable. It shows as an ESPN+ game on the app.

Checked with support. Not getting game without an upgrade. Overseas customer service. Guess I’ll try it and have computer ready for gamewatch play by play.

This is 100% an ESPN+ game that everyone should be able to access the normal way, right?

I appreciate how hard you are working to make sure you can watch the game - you are a true fan, and I applaud you for that.

The gameday splash page on the athletic department website has a link that says "Watch Live" and when you click on it, it takes you to the normal ESPN+ video tab. So, I truly believe you should be able to watch this one the way you would before, by accessing it through your normal ESPN+ route - whether that's in the ESPN app/website, through Hulu, or even on Disney+. I implore you to at least give it a try at gametime.

I'm looking forward to being there in the stadium tonight. Hoping the rain holds off as much as possible, but I'm bringing a poncho just in case.

Should be a spectacle with all the big named in the house tonight. You guys think Urban Meyer is a big selfie guy?

Anyone have a feel for how this game is gonna go?

I'm expecting to start slow as guys start to gain game chemistry, but I think I trust the offense to put up some points this year, assuming Pyne has the goods. This offensive line should be a strength for us. No idea what to expect from the defense, but it has a high ceiling if the transfer additions hit.

I'd like to see us score 30+ in this game - we only did that 4 times in the regular season last year. Give us something to root for on offense.

But ultimately, just end the night 1-0.
