Best wishes for a great season for BGU. We are really looking forward to our game with you. BG always brings it tough - you are a stout team and you have our total respect (tho we fear no one). I anticipate a low scoring game - OU always starts slow and rusty - and the first half may be very close. I remember a great OU wishbone team under Switzer that opened vs Vanderbilt and Vandy built up a 14-3 lead by halftime, mainly due to 5 OU fumbles in the red zone. OU applied the heat however in the 2nd half and the final score was like 31-21. Two years ago we opened vs Tulsa and the halftime score was 3-0. Just couldnt connect on a pass to save our life. So - expect a slow start but watch out for the 2nd half. Come on down for a great game and bring your football. By the way I must ask what is a Ziggy Zoomba?? And you may be wondering what is a Boomer Sooner.

SoonerBird,
Thanks for your thoughts. We are looking forward to a fun weekend in OC, and a game to remember. From what the guys say, you are the best of what college football offers! They are looking forward to the trip and playing in a venue that really has a reputation for respecting the game itself, not just the winning (unlike a well known team from our state).
Thanks for visiting our site.
Any suggestions of what not to miss while visiting OC? And, how early should we head to the stadium and any parking suggestions?

Bird, thanks for coming on. The OK fans who have been on here have been very classy and friendly, and we've enjoyed it. Its fun to talk football with other fans without the smack.
We probably know more about Boomer Sooner than you do about Ay Ziggy Zoomba. In short, its our unofficial fight song whose lyrics are found on the home page of this site. Mike Weger sung it as part of rookie initiation with the Detroit Lions in the movie Paper Lion.

Just stopping by to say hello, and also extend "best wishes". It was fun watching BG on TV some last season, very nice team.
Hopefully, you guys will enjoy the trip down to OK, for those of you planning on coming. As for what to do in Oklahoma City, I guess it depends on what fills your cup of tea. A lot of people like visiting the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, which is awesome. It's right there in downtown. I would probably suggest hanging out in the Bricktown area. They have a lot of places to eat, canal, clubs, etc... They've done a lot to improve that area in recent years.
As for when to come to the game. I'll be on campus(live in Norman) by 7, due to the early start, but it just depends on what you want to do Gameday. Earlier the better. Someone else can probably let you know how the traffic is coming from the City, but I imagine it gets pretty heavy coming in. As for parking, you'll find that a lot of people just park on side streets and whereever they can find a spot. The stadium is right in the middle of campus pretty much, so we don't have a lot of on-site parking(just a donor parking garage). You'll be able to find some 5$ and 10$ lots in and around the campus area, like on College St. and Flood. It's a decent walk, but not bad, since it's right through campus.
Let me know if you have any other questions, eating, or anything like that, hope everyone has a safe drive or flight down here, and enjoys their stay,
Boomer Sooner!

Hope y'all have fun in Norman, great college football town in the heartland. The stadium is a part of the main campus and does not have its own parking lot. Most parking is done in residential areas for 5$-15$ per car. There is some university lots that allow parking, but usually on priority club-membership basis. The Loyd-Noble center has free parking, but is a 20 minute walk from the stadium (1+ mile south of stadium right off of hwy 9).
You will want to get to Norman propper by at least two hours before the game. Ideally, you want to park about 1:15 before kickoff and then meander through the beautiful campus over to the stadium. Plenty of pre-game tents, stands, activities outside the stadium before the game. No alcohol is sold within Owen Field ...keep that in mind. If you want to hit the beer before the game, just to the southeast of the stadium, there is an irish pub called O`Connels that has a street party where beer is served at a fevorish pace--can'tr miss it ...just look for 2 thousand people drinking beer in the street near the stadium. Virtually all streets next to the stadium become a 1 mph trickle, so don't try to drive up to the stadium, when you see parking signs that say 5$ or 10$, then you're as close as you want to try to get with a vehicle.
Norman is a college town of a thousand hidden treasures, not part of any metropolis. Friendly place where you will be treated with respect. Oklahoma City has more urban entertainment and atmosphere.
We'll be glad to have a classic and exciting MAC team give us an early test. I think Sooner fans in general don't give the top MAC teams enough credit, hopefully the coaching staff does.
Anyhow, enjoy the game!!

Man these folks from OU are nice....Bet they won't be as cordial on the football field come Saturday 9-4-04.......
Kidding aside...All the OU fans who have come on to this board have been very classy. You can tell they know their football as they show our program a lot of respect (unlike those folks at Purdue and OSU who underestimated the Falcons!!

Can't speak on the S.FLA fans but I was at the NIU debacle two years ago and those fans are total losers. One guy tried to steal my BG hat during the game and then as we were heading back to the car, a bunch of the school pukes tried to pick a fight with me. That was the year we were undefeated and 18th in the country before the game. My "worst fans" vote goes to NIU...
Ok...

On this board, why when we have great people come on this board, does the discussion always denigrate to what school has the worst fans or didn't give us our props? It's in the past...Let it go...

Mom - On the night before the game if you are in OKCity just go to Bricktown (about 1/4 southeast of downtown). You will notice the canals and be sure to take a boat ride for orientation. It is all there - restaurants, bars, pubs and will be crawling with OU fans and BGU fans. On gameday 81.000 people will be going to Norman and 40,000 will be coming from OKCity so suggest you start out 3 hours prior to kickoff tho Norman is only 20 miles south of OKCity. The best parking for the game is at Madison Elementary School on James St about 4 blocks SE of Memorial Stadium - only 5 bucks and the money goes to buy supplies for the kids and not into some slumlord's pocket. You will find parking there because strangely not too many people know about the school. When walking from Madison to the stadium you will pass a bunch of OU tailgaters. Many will offer you a beer, a slab of ribs or a cheeseburger off the grill just for stopping by - but in return they will expect you to outline your team strengths and weaknessees and tell about BGU. OU fans are very cordial and very friendly.

SoonerBird,
Thanks for the info. We are arriving in OC about midday Friday. I purposely booked a room at the Westin downtown so we could spend the rest of the day in Bricktown.
I can't wait-boy, do I need a long weekend away!
