The Steelers edged closer to Tuesday’s mandatory roster limit by releasing six players today.

The six players released included four rookie free agents, one first-year player and a third-year veteran.

Released were: third-year defensive lineman Anthony Herron, one-year offensive tackle Morgan Pears, and rookie free agents fullback Darryl Kennedy, linebacker Nick McNeil, offensive guard Josh Parrish, and safety Janssen Patton.

The roster reduction gives the Steelers 78 players. With six NFL Europe exemptions, the team must trim its roster to 71 by Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. Without exemptions, the limit is 65 players.

Hopefully it won't be the last we hear from the General

I'm really hoping this isn't the last we hear. I was looking forward to getting both a Patton and a Harris Jersey this year...I hope he lands with the Bears. Good luck General.

Ouch...doesn't bode well that he couldn't last past the first wave of cuts on the thinnest (and worst) secondary in the NFL...:(

Out of position

Given that safety isn't his position, he just tried his best but unfortunately it wasn't enough.

Kinda figured that was gonna happen after watching the entire PITT-Phila game the other night and JP didn't get to play at all! :x

I really hope the General gets a shot elsewhere.

Well...The only good thing is hopefully he will get picked up by a team I don't hate. GO BROWNS!
